Was nothing more scary than when Vieira decided he'd have a run through midfield and create an attack, was an awesome midfielder, and much more of a threat going forward than most credit him for.

No doubt Vieira for a defensive mid-fielder was pretty dangerous when he decided to go forward but his attacking game was not effective or consitent enough to play in an advanced role behind a lone striker.

Haha, come on now fellas this should not be an argument..

BARNES OUT
They've been playing pretty well under him, better than they were beforehand anyway. Good decision (not that many would've been putting their hands up to take over IMO).

Whether deliberate or not (think the bloke's something of the penis, so lean towards the latter personally) Kinnear has instilled a bit of a siege mentality (cf: his "you're all ****s" speech to the Geordie press & his "Mickey Mouse ref" rant) which has done the trick after a fashion.

Well AFAIC neither Keane nor Vieira were defensive midfielders, whatever CM said, however I can see this discussion is going nowhere.

What's that? Is someone seriously comparing the two greatest midfielders since the premiership began to Steven Gerrard?

Fook James Brown out for the season with a cruciate injury

No more Jeff Stelling doing this

Hope I'm wrong can see us going down our squad is so paper thin another couple more injury's would cripple us - at least we got Kevin Kyle on loan til January. Rumour is he is on 8K a week 400,000 a year for a player who can't run or trap a bag of cement it shows you how far removed from reality Footballers wages have got even at our level.

Winning today against the mighty Fleetwood in the FA Cup hopefully get a decent draw in the 3rd round.

I hate generation arguments, because it becomes obvious atleast to me as someone who watched football in the 90's which generation wins, its the late 90's and early 2000 every time.

Keane vs Viera is probably the best battle in midfield the premiership will see for sometime, no one has come close to it yet. Arsenal vs United, you could safely was the best game going every season.

Disagree, it's no generation thing. Cristiano Ronaldo is as good a winger as there's ever been in the premiership. Just like Keane and Vieira were two players a class above any central midfielder in the premiership today.

Only because Pat Nevin never played in it

Convince me of what a conventional winger does. He does not score goals, he crosses the ball and scores goals. For this Ronaldo fails IMO. The fact that he does everything else and floats around the pitch like an artist means he defies logic as probably one of the players of the premiership. I admire him greatly for that.

Giggs and Beckham are without question perhaps also adding Kanchelskis and Ginola with a few notable exceptions like Mcmanaman the best the Premiership had to offer. They did their roles as 'wingers' IMPO,
