Have to say, what on earth are Spurs doing 11th? They should be where Everton are imo.

Yeah I think they will be next season personally, this season has been one of upheaval, next season we shall see what Ramos has up his sleeve.

His done a good job considering his working with a considerable number of players’ one suspects he would rather not have around – can’t see the likes of Chimbonda, Kevin-Prince Boateng et cetera surviving Ramos's summer purge.

TBF to Jol he actually pretty much did have T*ttenham where yer Toffees are for two seasons on the bounce. It only really went **** up when it became apparent Levi had a roving eye & Big Mart's days were numbered.

Best possible squad from Capello, although Heskey & King should have been in instead of Defoe & either Lescott/Upson (although King may still have fitness issues).

The 7 to miss out for the final 23 IMO should be Defoe, Downing, Brown, SWP, Walcott, Weather, Lescott/Upson.

Also must say ticket confirmation confirmed & will be @ OT this weekend, first game since November & i'm expecting a thriller live.

What's wrong with Defoe, may I ask? Six goals in six games makes him the Premiership's in-form English striker. Certainly a better bet than Heskey.

Defoe has had such decent goal-scoring periods in the premiership before with his previous clubs hasn't he?, but we have seen him over & over for England & he has looked short of international quality.

With Heskey although he may bang in the goals he is a useful battering ram for opposition defenses which thus creating space for the likes of Rooney, Owen, Cole to play of him.

Just seen this part.

You've missed the point, they're all the same type of player, none of them are real predators, which leaves little to no room for maneuver. Ironically, given he's a winger, I think Ronaldo is a better poacher than Rooney and Tevez.
Hmm, haven't really seen this problem this season TBH.

Although i agree with the point none of them (especially Rooney & Tevez) are real predators but i don't think the need for a ``target man`` is that needed. I'd say that quick paced, one-touch passing that United portray when in full-flow this season once things go well in the future is a recipe for success againts any opponent.

Yes, that is, ideally, the United way, however I have lost count of the number of high balls that have been fed forward to Rooney and Tevez, who due to their lack of height have no chance. I thought Saha, while completely and obviously lacking in match practise, did alleviate this problem to some extent last night, actually, despite not being a massive man himself.

I think the world of both Rooney and Tevez as footballers (while Tevez has by no means been poor this season, he'll be better next season once he's had a proper pre-season), we do need something else.

If Defoe is not international class then Heskey certainly isn't, while I wouldn't have minded Heskey being picked because we don't have any other target men, IMO Defoe should undoubtedly be in there.

Look at how Heskey performed in the qualifiers last year though, as i said even if he doesn't score goals thats all he needs to do & once he keeps it up (and probably move back to a more established club) he should be a very key part of England's attacking plans as we look to build for 2010.

Lets say England have a tournament next month the best combination of strikers once fit out of a 23-man squad would be Rooney, Owen, Agbonlahor, Heskey, Crouch.

Rooney, Owen, Agbonlahor are similar style players while Heskey & Crouch the suggested target men. The likes of Defoe, Johnson, Bent are lesser version to Wazza & Owen & should only be picked if injuries occur because i won't exactly expect much from them lets say againts our new nemisis Croatia @ Home in a tense WCQ come next september..

Owen's hilariously off form though. No point picking him based on that, sends the wrong message too. 'Oh you've been playing crap, here have an England place.'
