Listening to call-ins on MUTV, a fan in France called his brother who called in on his behalf. Apparently there were loads of Lille "fans" selling tickets to the United fans. The police did not want to mix the United fans in with the Lille fans, so they just put United fans with "home" tickets into the away stand - and there naturally ended up with crowding leading to people being crushed. The result? Police fire tear gas, attack with batons and rubber bullets.

Meanwhile, to my knowledge, not a single Lille fan was punished for throwing crap at United players at any point of the game, although I'm sure there will be "investigations" made at a later time... heh.

a win's a win, Man U are in a perfect position to kill Lillee @ OT next month.

Some interesting games around Europe Real/Bayern as i expected was close encounter. Actually payed more attention to the game (since i expected United to win) so as look at how Beckham & Hargreaves would go.

Arsenal have their work cut out at the emirates stadium next month though, while i expect Milan to close Celtic off @ the San Siro next month.

Looking foward to 2moro's mouth watering clashes..

Awesome for win for PSV, played Arsenal's key players out of the game and we had a few guys that always looked dangerous, Kone had a ripper of a game as did Salcido, Alex and Culina...

Oh dear. Bit of crowd trouble at Lille/Man U they've just shown on ITV4.

Not what you want to see.
Doesn't surprise me from some French football fans. A bunch of low-bred morons who have never done a real day's work in their life.

I have to say, I'm so tired of home teams who try to play for 0-0 draws. I think away goals should only count if you score at least one goal at home in the first place.

EDIT: Rooney "hits the damn thing" and it flies over. Not sure what he's better at, to be honest (hits or chips).
A team who sets out to play for a 0-0 draw from the outset is not a very good one, especially in the Champions League.

Damn right. Mendez was excellent too and got a great goal.

Gomez is such a brilliant goalkeeper, it won't be easy for Arsenal to sneak two past him in the return leg.

I say we've got a great chance of progressing now :)

It shows that the forum is devoid of Liverpool fans...(except bugs who's working right now, I should think)

Anyway, good game I thought (the 60-odd minutes I watched of it). Barca seemed to give up once they had the goal in the bag, really. They totally overrun Liverpool between 10 and 17 minutes (and Riise was offside for Liverpool's only decent chance), then Valdez hands them a bit of a fluky goal (the commentators genuinely couldn't see he was out of balance because of the step he took into the goal - he needed to poke that ball out or he would have walked bacwkards into the net) and Riise seals it. Good stuff.

Admittedly it's one less competitor for Chelsea, but Lyon will take them out anyway. (I wish).

Called that one at school today.

Liverpool won't get much further given that the majority of the teams left in the competition have a cohesive back four and don't act as individuals going forward. Fair play to them though, they defended pretty well, apart from Reina's moments of madness in goal.

well, having succesfully predicting liverpools victory within the few days after the draw was made, i will now bask in the commendation of my prediction, and laugh in the face of those who scoffed, thankyou very much.

And I'm $60 richer!

Take that bet365.com, giving Liverpool at 6.00 and me chucking my tenner on Liverpool and not for the first time they do good for me
Did anyone put money on Liverpool at $6? Read about some of you thinking about it before.
Yep as above.

Took your advice and won. Clearly somebody know's his football...

$6?!

Best i had was $4.25 which wasnt exactly worth the risk imo...
Who do you go through? Jono and I, it is bet365 and I love some of their odds, like Arsenal being huge outsiders to Liverpool in the FA Cup 3rd round (well not to huge, but huge for Arsenal), Tottenham being outsiders to Fulham in the last FA Cup meet.

Although on another note Inter drew 2-2 with Valencia and I'm slightly worried now going into the second leg, but the last time Inter played Valencia at their stadium, Inter won 5-1 and this squad >>> over that one even if Patrick Vieira is out for six weeks  :@

And reading about the Roma - Lyon, and Mike Riley was dishing out the cards, does this surprise anybody or not?

And Arsenal and Tottenham want Rimini youngster Apimah Ahmed Barusso (http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/feb21i.html), I don't know if there is any truth do that and I'm not sure about Work Permit's.

Mike Riley's Premiership stats have him with 16 games, 6 reds, 58 yellows and a 4 card average. He's given out more red cards than any other ref this season.

Mark Clattenburg has a higher average (4.11 in 19, 78 yellows) although he's given out 0 reds. Uriah Rennie also has an even higher average of 4.23 (13 matches, 54 yellow, 1 red).

Lille really are a bunch of wankers.

Apparently they want the game annulled due to the referee's decisions. As if that'l ever happen.

The referee's decision is final, it has been since football came about, and to abandon a game due to a dubious goal would undermine the referee.

Apparently they've likened us to Feyenoord. I don't want anyone thrown out, but if anyone it should be them for their players' reaction to the referee's decision.
