I have been thinking lately if Chelsea want to spend big bucks on a midfielder in a role Essien would probably fill, wouldn't they better be better of getting a more proven player like Gattuso for less money Chelsea are willing to go to for Essien and has some experience in the British game and the British lifestyle (ok I know it was in Scotland) and would know better English then Essien (I have heard him speak it and I could barely understand it so he is better talking in French) so is likely to fit in much more quickly then Essien would?
Essien is good but IMO not worth that sort of money, some clubs are laughing all the way to bank in some of the extreme prices they are willing to pay for players who probably IMO not really able to justify the price tag.

I had Ashley Cole in for a while, I had 2 goalkeepers and 5 defenders in and had 54 ish left and was slightly perplexed why they were all cheap relative to the budget... then I got onto the midfielders and forwards. Anyway had to get shot of the only CDM player and spent exactly 100 million, I've not played this before so I have no idea as to the strategy - I imagine other people might have gone for 3 forwards or 5 midfielders.

I've got 3 from Chelsea, so there are my bankers I suppose. Obviously you have to have one expensive 200+ points a season player to make as captain as well. For that reason (amongst others) I hope Henry (minnow-basher extraordinaire) has a duff season.
