I hear that Albert Luque is supposed to be joining Newcastle from Deportivo La Coruna for about 9.5m and having his medical today - what impact does this have their bid for Owen if in fact they will sign him? If they sign Luque I assume Owen (if he appears) at St James' on loan?

Well Shephard gave owen an ultimatem yesterday and we have heard nothing since so i rekon the deal is off. Im happy they have got Luque in but i dont know whether they will play him wide or upfront as they need a player in both positions. Souness has already said he wont get 20 goals a season and that he wouild like too bring in another stirker who is more of a goalscorer this was probably refering to owen but il wait and see if they move for someone else befoe the deadline

they need owen and luque and several more defenders before they can realistically think about challenging the upper half of the premiership, a creative midfielder wouldnt go amiss either as they are lacking one at the moment, esspecially seeing as viana is off to valencia on loan.

Yes with the striker crisis they seem to have forgoten what was for years there weakness which is the defence i think another centre back would make it a reasonable defence . Luque can play wide i believe so he may solve some of the creative problems but then they really need owen aswell.

It gave a good chance to see some players I had not had a good look at.

But yes what is the purpose of a Super Cup. bah.

Doing well this week in the Fantasy Premier League, hopefully the 3 players that play tomorrow will get me some points as well... although if Jenas scores I'm gonna be somewhat annoyed.

only 14 points from my players on show today, but thats due to spurs being shut out and half the teams not playing, hopefully will get a few more 2mo. Let down by the fact arsenal dont seem to have a fixture this week.

Just watching MOTD. The new "clampdown" is starting to border on the ridiculous now. God knows I'm no fan of Tw@tenham, but Mido's sending off was very, very harsh.

I definitely agree there. It's quite embarrassing to have so many red cards rescinded because they were not worthy.

well if you go by that criteria then if you say henry fades away in big games then you have to say the same for nistelrooy as well.
Well France are struggling to qualify while Holland who are in my view in atougher group are poised to make it to the WC. You brought up last season against Chelsea but neglected the games this season. Mind you he's still a great player despite that.
