Great day for the youngsters it seems.

Also Joe Sayers hit a 6 and is scoring at 61.
Might've been working on adding a few shots to his repertoire over the winter. There's a school of thought which suggests it's pretty easy for some players to do once they have a solid technique, even though I'm walking example to the contrary. :p

With seven first class matches available looks like Chris Rogers will get 1,000 by the end of May with ease - in fact Derbyshire have four games this month - what odds 1,000 in April?

Strauss really should not be tested by and of this Worcs bowling lineup. Really hoping he can pile on the runs.

I always thought the milestone (last achieved by Hick, Turner and Edrich) was 1000 in May.

I wouldn't get you hopes up. Hildreth scored 300 in an April match last year but still got nowhere near the 1000 by end of May.

Hildreth doesn't have the record that Rogers does though, the bloke's a seriously, seriously good player.

And there's where I stopped reading. Yea of course what Onions did over 5 years ago is key to whether he's a better bowler than those two here and now... Doesn't matter that he outperforms them both practically every Test, it's that career FC average that trumps all.
Think you are being a bit hypocritical here. You were the one saying look at Davies record over 5 -6 years, but apparently we can't do the same with Onions.

Incidently, I have looked at the Davies record and he takes 3.2 wickets per match compared to Plunket (3.0), Onions (3.2), Sidebottom (3.2), Broad (3.3) and Anderson (3.6). Takes wickets for fun? I suspect not.

Regarding Onions test performance, he has taken 28 wickets in 8 tests (3.5 per test), and scored 30 runs. Over a similar period of time Anderson has 39 wickets in 11 tests (3.5) and 176 runs, Broad also has 39 wickets in 11 tests and 376 runs. Fairly obvious who has performed the best over the last year.

I can't see too many Aussies trembling in their boots at the sight of Onions running in to bowl in Brisbane in November.

Only WG, Hammond and Charlie Hallows did it in May - the others, Bradman x2, Edrich, Hick, Turner and Hayward did it in April and May

The only players to score 1,000 runs in May are
WG Grace 1895
Wally Hammond 1927
Charlie Hallows 1928

What Hick, Turner and Edrich achieved was 1,000 runs before the end of May. The only others to do this, I think, were Tom Hayward and Don Bradman (twice).

What a completely moronic choice of statistic regarding wickets per match. Onions helped England draw Test matches with the bat. Onions has been comfortably the best seam bowler in the short space of time he's played, despite the way he's been underused - particularly in respect to giving the new ball to 35 averaging mediocrity. Davies has been consistently awesome in County Cricket. the going back over several seasons is to show he's been consistent, it's not been a one off where he's averaged sub-20. He has done it over 5-6 seasons. He's as good now as he has been in the past. When players change dramatically over a period of time it does become pointless looking at what they did 5-6 seasons ago. This applies to players who are past their best, have had a bad injury, matured etc.

Sorry, but can we please try raise the standard of discussion a little above the level of "your post is moronic"?

Tough opening in his new role as Surrey captain for young Rory Hamilton-Brown, coming across an in-form Chris Rogers is not what you need so early into your reign. As good a job as Shane Watson's done at the top of the Aussie Test line-up, it still surprises this man has never had a decent opportunity to claim the position.

Good to see Steve Finn claim a 5-for on the opening day to back-up his impressive efforts in Bangladesh.

Yorkshire look in a decent position to go past Warwickshire's under par 217, Joe Sayers carrying on where he left off last season, with more positivity it seems.

Not a bad day for Essexs either, thanks to James Foster's 88.

Nothing to do with his ability on the field, tbh. Seen as a difficult bloke. Didn't win himself many friends when getting into a slanging match with Matty Hayden during the 2005 Ashes tour when playing for Northants. Made a double hundred, but also got himself offside with one of the most influential personalities within Australia cricket.
