Decent fightback from Lancs, Hants were 173-5 with Pietersen and Irvine in and at the crease with about 10 overs left, bowled out for 200 with Anderson taking 2-18 from 7.5 and Andy Crook outbowling Murali to take 3-32.

Styris hit 71 to get Middx out of a bit of a hole against Essex from 144-5 to 243-6 off 45. Pathan was sent in at number 3 and scored 3.

Derbyshire on a bit of a roll after winning last weekend, they scored 304-3 off their 45, Di Venuto got a ton. Looks like a big scorer at Croydon aswell between Warks and Surrey, Warks 267/6 with 5 to go. Leics score 217/4 in the other game against Somerset

Yeah great total for Derbyshire. I am a bit of a fan of them, I like their attitude, very similar to Zimbabwe not the strongest squad but they fight like devils. David Houghton as coach probably has a lot to do with that.

Warwickshire make up the numbers with Ian Westwood (opening batsman who doesn't bowl) coming in at 10 :S

Essex pretty much doing likewise with Ryan ten Doeschate - batting no8 and bowling 1 over as the 8th bowler used. Somerset wasting the talents of Jamie Hildreth at no7, and also demoting Aaron Laraman five places to 10 following his golden duck on Monday - a little harsh, the lad can actually bat.

What rational reason could there be for Westwood batting at 10 for Warwickshire? That's pretty much forcing yourself to play a match with 10 men........

i am has disappointed has ever going to the game expecting an easy chase for Lanchashire, but to see them get routed for 121 was just poor.

That man Tremlett look good, and it was nice to see both legendary spin bowlers bowling, thats like a once a life time experience, Anderson has continued has consistency this season while Hodge hasn't been so prolific.

But the only highlight for me on this disappointing afternoon was that i got Warne & Murali authograph :D

Got that about right - my bet is Smith will be glad Cricket SA have cut short his stay at the County Ground. By the middle of July he'll be begging them to take him away, never mind the end of it. :D

I have to say an all-rounder batting at 8 is nothing like a specialist batting at 10.

The only reasoning must be he's a good fielder, because although we've gone close (Loudon batting 9 when he's a batsman who can fill in) we've not gone this extreme before!

Fantastic innings from Afrikaner/dutchman Ten Doeschate yesterday. Most Essex fans absolutely hated him until yesterday, now he's a hero. On the County forum when he got whacked for 25 off one over (and pretty much since 2004) people were asking what the hell we got him for... three hours later he was being projected as a dead cert for OD cricket for the rest of the year. And we're top of the NCL too. I just hope we can keep it up.

Well done to Hampshire, well batted and extremely well bowled.

Murali and Warne in the same game is always good. :)

Surely it's better to pick the best batsman to go at ten if the selection isn't needed to bowl at all?

I don't understand the logic of a specialist bat at 10 - especially when they persist in opening with Neil Carter.

for that quick 30-40 runs at the start ofthe innings. his job is not to get 50's every week, just to give them a head start

I didn't realise Ten Doeschate was an all-rounder, thought he was just a bowler and they had a very long tail. Obviously I now see that he can bat, after his match-winning innings!

I reckon Warwicks must have played Westwood with the plan being that he would open the batting, but then they changed their minds and said "ok, we don't want to mess up the order too much, so Carter and Westwood can just swap places". Bit odd, but the only explanation I can think of.

My explanation would be that Westwood was probably going to bat at 7-8 (possibly as a bit of insurance in case the likes of Carter failed miserably), but since the 5th wicket fell with very few overs left they just went with players who were perceived to better at scoring a quickfire 20 rather than the best batsman left, and so with more wickets falling Westwood just kept getting shuffled down the pack.

Well looks like Lancs will be up against it in the Roses match this week, Hoggard passed fit to play for Yorkshire but Murali looks doubtful, has an abductor strain and will have a fitness test tomorrow morning
