ECB considering a new one day tournament to be based in Abu Dhabi, to boost England's chances at 2019 World Cup - Telegraph

Some interesting proposals.

North vs South 50 over competition in UAE in spring before start of county season. Doesn't sound like much of a competition either with only two teams. Problem with any of this is expense- Won't be cheap. Think I'd prefer four teams or seeing if you could invite say a couple of Pakistan teams or Sri Lankan or whoever and see if you could sell the television rights.

Can't see players being released to play IPL and missing tests as a result being a popular decision - and rightly so.

Seems like they can't pass any of the changes to the county season that they would like and as a result seem keen to setup some shortterm solutions to exposing players to a higher standard of cricket with the world cup in 2019 in mind.

Surrey sign Mark Footitt - Kia Oval Footitt to Surrey
Vince new contract and confirmed as Hampshire captain. James Vince Signs New Contract & Becomes Hampshire Club Captain · The Ageas Bowl

Certainly will be different for Footitt playing at the oval every other week compared to Derby and a load of the second division counties. Be interesting to see how he goes.

Eight Kent players in Bangladesh Premier League 2015 auction | Kent County Cricket Club

8 Kent players into the Bangladesh PL auction including Billings, Coles and Stevens. Interesting given the past corruption in the comp and that going by a recent tweet by Phil Mustard some players from last years comp still haven't been paid.

I think the BCB has changed the structure of payments and whatnot to try to avoid that issue.

I see the full list of English players contains Ravi Bopara, Monty Panesar and Dernbach. Be interesting to see which randoms on the list get picked up. List of available foreign players for BPL-3

Great experience of foreign conditions for some of the younger players on the list if they can get picked up- and don't get in trouble. Would like to see Jake Ball, Olly Stone, Liam Dawson, Sam Billings and Adam Riley get a chance.

Of that list, I'd love to see Trego, Payne, Eckersley, Parry, Coles, Riley, Billings, Malan, Dawson and Claydon get picked up. Very interested to see how some of them would go in foreign conditions.

I've been following how the english have been doing in grade cricket so far this winter.

In previous weeks the most impressive performances have been by Aadil Ali of leicestershire who scored 162 for UNSW in sydney first grade, and Josh Poysden of Warwickshire who took 7-87 for Northern District in sydney first grade.

This week Nick Browne is back playing for Mosman in sydney where he has been a consistent scorer over the last two years and he was back today with a ton(111). Having scored 5 tons last year opening for Essex you'd imagine he'd be somewhere close to lions selection given the paucity of opening options.

Another essex lad in Jaik Mickleburgh was captaining North Sydney today and also made a ton(107)

In perth grade cricket Tom Abell of Somerset had a fun day. He was part of a bowling attack with Hogan(Glamorgan and WA), Jhye Richardson(Aus u19s) and Ashton Turner(WA) and turned out the best bowling figures of the lot with 3-24 from 10, and then was 65* as his team Fremantle ran out easy winners.

Adam Wheater is back playing for Perth and made 80 today.

It's a more inexperienced group who are with the Darren lehman cricket academy this winter in Adelaide.

No Ross Whiteley this winter for Prospect having got a Lions callup for a T20 series against Pakistan.

Jack Leach out in WA grade as well, I think (an MJ Leach took 1/25ish in Mitch Johnson's grade cricket return)

Darren Stevens - Comilla Victorians
Ravi Bopara - Sylhet Superstars
Chris Jordan - Sylhet Superstars
Josh Cobb - Sylhet Superstars
Ryan ten Doeschate - Dhaka Dynamites
Dawid Malan - Dhaka Dynamites

Out of 53 English players only 6 were chosen

Shocked Billings didn't get picked, Coles would have done a great job too. Anti-Somerset/Trego feeling even seeps into the sub-continent, it's a plague on the game:(

Cobb getting another go is lol. There aren't many more average cricketers than him.

Stone (and Gregory) out of the England potential bowling group this winter with a back injury. Shame. Once he gets injury free, he could be something special.

Surrey could put out a really interesting team next year potentially.

Burns, Ansari, Sangakarra, Davies, Roy, Wilson/Foakes,S Curran, T Curran, Batty, Meaker, Footitt

I think most of the time they'll play one more bat but that is a really intriguing team. Also Sam Curran missing the start of the summer with school - and probably being a year away from being a genuine 6 or 7 with the bat and Meaker being injury prone the last few years means it'll likely never see the light of day.

Really does cover nearly all bases which is so rare for county cricket. Gritty openers, Super World class 3, Strokeplayer middle order, Two quick bowlers, One metronomical pacer, Two left arm pacers, two good spinners who spin it in opposite directions. All the players have either played international cricket or have excellent chances of playing it.

Can't see them winning div 1 as the step up is big for div 2 but they should certainly be worth watching next year.

Bring KP back to bat 4 and force Davies into keeping and it would be a fun team.

Probably the best looking team in Div 1.

Meaker is said to be bowling again at 95mph at Loughborough so you could see that bowling line up.
Probably the best looking team in Div 1.

Meaker has to prove he can do it on the pitch again not just bowl a quick spell at loughboro. I really liked him and if he does get fit he still has a good chance with England. Unfortunately he seems injury plagued and not in your typical pre 25 back injury types that seems to ease once past 25.

I reckon Surrey will be happy enough just avoiding relegation this year. The team is likely to start being affected by international callups and there are bound to be injury problems at some point for the Currans you'd imagine.

Yes Meaker needs to be bowling like he was in 2014 not like last year before his injury.
Tom Curran going from bowling 154 overs in f/c cricket in 2014 to 544 last season must be very near to an injury. Add on 127 overs with the white ball makes it 671 overs!

Surrey really need to rotate their fast-bowlers a lot more next year, in the end promotion was all-important, but they don't 3ant to ruin some great talents. Shouldn't forget Dunn who loos rapid on his day.

This lions squad is the opposite of the full team at the moment. Full of number 10/11 bats. Mills, Topley, JOverton, Parry, Ball, Finn, Briggs. Makes it hard to pick a decent team for these games against PAK a.

Need a couple more bowling allrounders to bat 7 and 8. Willey and Overton/Gregory were originally intended to be there but Willey is play Big bash and C.Overton and Gregory are injured.

JOverton, Mills and Ball all playing today. One of the quicker attacks England would have put out in recent times.

More importantly, Ben Foakes has returned into international circles thus maintaining the possible rhyming England middle order
