Not sure Derbyshire have a leg to stand on wrt not wanting Kolpaks anyway...Madsen, Park, Hinds, Smith...Is this the Kolpak factor? To be fair, many teams exploit it. Blame the ECB, not the clubs. The clubs have to the best they can for their members, otherwise what's the point in a competitive Championship.
Nope. They had the chance of a final win and finishing higher in the table. Plus Essex's target was genuinely challenging - Derbyshire were probably about as likely to win as Essex, although the draw remained favourite. No one else think there's anything fishy about Derby's declaration?
Plus when Yorkshire were approached about a similar deal a couple of weeks ago, and declined, they were roundly criticised.Nope. They had the chance of a final win and finishing higher in the table. Tbf, didn't watch much from it, but even if it was a deal I'm struggling to see what's wrong with it. The potential gains were there for Derbyshire too - 360 from 60 is a fairly steep ask.Was it a 'deal'? The cricinfo report doesn't really suggest proper declaration bowling - i.e. Cook and Pettini just bowled (badly) and Derbyshire just put the (frequent) bad balls away. I didn't see the game you see. Certainly it was pretty poor declaration bowling if they were only scoring at 7s.
Well, if you can really call it spin...Right-arm pies is probably the accurate description!at Cook's bowling description on Cricinfo!
Bowling style Right-arm slow
I remember him bowling offspin in his only Test over.
I figured that, I just said 60-odd as I couldn't remember the exact amount. Great innings from Ten Doeschate all the same, and overall Essex probably deserve their promotion, although I am even more gutted that Gloucestershire didn't quite finish off that chase against Glamorgan when they should have done, as 12 (or however many it was) runs would have seen us get promoted with that final result. Hope to see Franklin back next season.I'm pretty sure they had a few more overs to chase it in than 60. They just got home with a lot of time to spare.
Agree. 359 off 65 overs is under no circumstances a generous declarationWell, if you can really call it spin...Right-arm pies is probably the accurate description!
Further to earlier point, don't see what enough was dodgy about the Derbyshire declaration...Derbyshire with nothing to play for, Essex with promotion to play for, it would be exceptionally unsporting IMO to not give them some kind of a shot at it. And it's not as if chasing down 359 in 60-odd overs (and not against part-timers, either) is in any way an easy task, is it?
