Plenty of runs at Uxbridge too. Kent pretty much just need to avoid losing to be guaranteed promotion so they'll be happy with 380-4 you'd think. 129* to Stevens and Northeast took advantage of short boundaries to hit 84 off 114 balls.

And what exactly is the difference between using your logic on Test/FC and ODI/List A stats?

I'm sure I could look around and pluck out players with good List A stats who failed in ODIs anyway.
Becuase the dynamics of the problems in OD & FC systems are totally different.

Historically our OD structure & the ODI players ENG produce have been bad because of how players are brought up in youth cricket in this country - overcoaching. You dont see KPs at under age cricket in this country & you know that.

Cook is the best of ENG youth talent, but he is not made for ODI cricket. So when we see him scoring run a ball hundreds, we know its a MASSIVE abberation. Since the bowling is absolutely crap since he won't do that to any international team except the minnows.

Ramps, Hick, Crawley failing or being average in tests although they have been smashing county attacks. Is because although the FC structure is strong, in some area's (Division 2) the standard of cricket & bowling is just as bad as some of poor domestic competitions in others nations. Thus these guys aren't tested enough technically, so when they come to tests they get constantly exposed.

The fact that Ramps was even being considered for the last Ashes test shows how bad the standard of batting in CC is currently.

Nah. Ramps failed simply because some players do not have the mentality to convert their domestic success into the international arena. That will always be the case with some players. You will also get players who will do better at the top level than their domestic record would suggest.

Pretty amusing the way Northants consistently give 6-7 bowlers a go and they all take wickets except for Donkey Panesar.

Shiv scored his 50th FC century today, 109 not out.

He is now averaging 53.75 in First Class Cricket overall, and 267 in this years County Championship

Blimey. That's a pretty good batting line-up that Durham have got, with Shiv, Diva and Benk all in form. They'll be worthy champions.

Meanwhile Sussex are freefalling towards Div 2... urgh

Planning to see another day of cricket at the Oval on Saturday, possibly my last for the year. I was a bit concerned when I saw that Surrey had taken two cheap wickets, in case Northants had to follow on with the game finishing tomorrow. But I needn't have worried, and it now looks as if the visitors will be taking a substantial lead.

Coming round to the idea of Batty playing as a specialist opener next year. It'll save us having to sign someone else (assuming Newman isn't coming back), and oddly there are a few counties playing two keepers on a regular basis at the moment: Brophy and Bairstow at Yorkshire; O'Brien and Wessels at Northants; and Ambrose and Frost at Warwickshire. JB isn't likely to interest another county at 35 - he doesn't have the 'star quality' that persuaded Hants to sign the three-years-older Cork, for instance - he may as well see out his contract and then call it a day.

Such a shame that Davies' career is going to be ruined by his injuries. 2/20 so far on what sounds like a road. I wonder if he'll ever play a test.

Haha, I'm pretty sure Lancs knew the guy was awesome when they let him leave. More to do with building a team for the future etc.

Notts 136-4 now - don't Durham only need a couple of bowling points to clinch it? Or does it depend on how many Notts make, they certainly don't look like getting many batting points.
