My word. Looks like Plunkett's had some tap. Sent down 7 overs. 0/55.

He used to play for England, you know. Crazee days.

Saying that he used to be a better player.

Played for us only last year after the Ashes.

Yep. Pretty sure he's even tonned up there before.
Found two instances where Middlebrook opened in FC cricket. June 2000 with David Byes, scored 18 and July 2003, where Middlebrook opened as Essex followed-on, scored 13. Never opened for Northants. Haven't verified all the data (just 8 years worth), got a jump on a con call so couldn't be asked opening up all the scorecards from 04 to 08.

Probably tempting providence here but Lanky's batting showing some welcome evidence of dependability for a change

I'm disappointed that England continue with their 13 man squads. Both Onions and Finn missed cricket last year being 12th or 13th man last year and given that neither are likely to be playing at trent bridge why pick a 13 man squad. Finn especially is still young and needs to play cricket to continue to develop his game rather than spending another season being 12th man.

They're looking for Finn to be available on Friday I think. Onions probably has played quite a lot of cricket already this season. I actually think he may get a game for England tomorrow. Bres down on pace after all.

How much cricket did Onions miss last year due to 12th man duties, I might be wrong but I can't remember any. After he got back to fitness after his bad injury I thought he played most of last season for Durham, he played 12 first class games.

I think sometimes they won't know who their going to go with until the day before or even the day of the Test, depending on the pitch etc. We've seen on quite a few occasions before that a bowler can get injured before a game so it's always necessary to have at least one back up bowler around but two is overkill, especially in England.

I do agree that Finn just needs to bowl as much as he can and could have been released back to his county once the test got under way, he's played 3 first class games this year and a one day game 4 days ago, so he's played half the games for Middlesex so far.

Amjad Khan bowling quickly against us in the CB40, clocking just shy of 90mph.

16 balls it's taken Gale to get off the mark.
