Somerset paying the price for just picking too many youngsters because of 'potential'. Which in most cases hasn't moved on from potential and into performances. The balance is horrible.

tbf they played well enough last week and they're only playing because no-one else is available. It's the like of Tres, Hildreth,Kirby that have been not performing that has really hurt somerset.

You've got two young batsmen who average 20 or less, 'all-rounders' that average less than 20 with the bat and take occasional wickets at 35-40 and another that takes occasional wickets and averages less than 10 with the bat. Somerset are also playing a spinner who takes occasional wickets at over 35 and can't bat. You can't carry 5 players like that while you wait for them to develop. If one or two seniors have a bad season you're completely screwed.

Who would you suggest play instead? The only senior player missing out is Kirby, and he's been rubbish this season. They need to make a couple of investments in the off season to try and prevent the same thing happen again, but for this match, there's really nothing wrong with that selection.

Well I don;t support somerset. I would accuse you of been a Yorkshire fan next time but it's kind of hard to forget you support Durham given that every second post of yours is banging on about Stokes or Onions or Wood or...

Wow there are some wickets today. Div 2 is basically over so it's allways a good time for a few to pad their averages one way or another as others ease off.

You can't let yourself get in a situation like that in the first place. Terrible management.

Meh, it wouldn't be so terrible if the senior players were actually doing well. It's been that, along with the presence of people at the wrong ends of their careers, either side, which has been their downfall this season. Somerset are clearly at a bit of a transitional stage, but they still probably would've been safe had either of Tres or Hildrith had a 1,000 run season. The fact that they haven't, along with Kieswetter's early season injury, Buttler and Compton missing a few games on England duty and Suppiah's retirement mean that it's been exposed a bit more than they would've liked, but it's not like there were loads of solutions. The big names just haven't done the job to the extent they would've liked.

Given the position they were in there shouldn't have been any danger of relegation regardless of the odd bit of bad luck. Finishing below the likes of Slurry or Derbyshire should have been unthinkable.

People get old and injured, that's nothing new.

What's the situation with Claydon this Sussex game his last for the county?

Can't see it making a difference for them mind.

Was on loan to kent but Durham recalled today cus they were short of bowlers. Kent announced today he's joining them along with Griffiths from Hampshire for next season. Load of loans(for this season) and transfers already gone through.

Not sure Stokes and Borthwick have signed new contracts at Durham yet and I think they both expire at the end of the season. And Durham have some pretty big financial problems. Guess they'll be glad when Steve Harmison leaves at the end of the season.

Notts allowed Warwickshire to use their 2nd xi keeper Cross today after Mckay was injured (Ambrose broke a finger the other day) today which is nice of them.

I know this isn't the right thread for it but I need some help.

I need a list of six to seven stadiums which would assist swing bowling but won't generate a lot of bounce.

Thanks.

At the start of the season our best side would have been:

Trescothick
Suppiah
Compton
Hildreth
Kieswetter
Buttler
Trego
Thomas
Dockerell
J. Overton
Kirby

That side has no problem with experience. Yes, there's a problem with the depth of the experience in the squad but young players like Chris Jones, Lewis Gregory and Craig Overton were always going to be the next ones in line. There has been some bad luck with injuries and international selection, as well as form. It happens, and it has hit us hard this year unfortunately. I don't think it can be entirely put down to poor management of the squad, although it is a part of it, as we haven't brought in experienced players as much as we have needed to.

Somerset haven't been too badly hit by international selection actually - Compton could have potentially played a lot more than he has. Kieswetter hasn't been picked much either. Dockerel and Buttler play the odd match here and there. Obviously Suppiah was a bit of a shock, but yea you need a squad these days.
