***Official*** England vs Sri Lanka 21st August-10th September 2024

Chandimal smashing the last ball for four, they are showing some fight, hopefully they can show some more fight tomorrow and make it a contest.

Think while there are very real concerns at how smaller cricketing nations are treated by the big 3, it’s very easy to blow things out of proportion whenever the smaller team have a sticky period, Sri Lanka are still in this just about
England added 119 runs after the fall of the 6th wicket, if Sri Lanka can match that, it’ll be potentially a very awkward little chase for England

Lol its deliberate... They keep doing it until they find the ball that starts to do something. F***in cheats. Have been doing it since Stokes took over.
The ball change is down to the umpires not the players. It's like saying it's deliberate to appeal for a catch that might or might not have nicked the bat. It's the umpire that decides, not the players.

Nah they keep damaging the ball though. I get that dukes ball has been an issue in recent memory but England keep changing unusually the most. Others side don't resort to it as much

New zealand do it a lot.

The ball change itself is not a problem, but it does seem like the replacements are always in like 50% better shape which is not on imo.

I think there's a simple solution. Teams should just suck it up, like they used to do. And maybe if they bowled better the ball wouldn't go out of shape in the first place.
Possible, but I do think it makes the game a little less exciting. Maybe the ring can be adjusted a bit to allow the ball to get worse before it really warrants a change.

The ball change thing became big because of the shitty dukes from the 2022 summer, no? They'd swing/seam for 10 overs than turn into chew toy's and do nothing (atleast for the nz series and the ind vs eng 5th test, not as sure on the SA series). Is it necessary now?

Maybe teams could rediscover the apparently lost art of bowling cutters and subtle changes of pace in tests.

Sri Lanka have done much better than everyone expected.

Gotta feel a bit for potts, could easily have been brilliant career-changing figures if we could catch, but could be his last match conceivably now, but with Wood injury he should be okay, but we'll see.

Just announced that Wood isn't bowling for the rest of the match, Lawrence-Root-Brooks, it's time.

Potts was really jammy at the start of his career with trash wickets so it's karma in a way.

Is Stokes expected to return for the second test then? Last I'd seen he was out for the summer.
