Flintoff's always been rubbish at dislodging tailenders anyway (hence how few 5-fers he gets), I don't know why they bowl him against the tail. The other seamers are merely average at getting rid of tailenders, that's why Panesar's had the chances to pick a few up.

That is ridiculous. How much more fresh air between bat and ball is required for it to be given not out?

Nothing wrong with the system. Get rid of incompetent umpires.

Ah good Panesar doesn't get the average booster.

Harmison should had have the referred lbw on the 2nd day also (the one that was given out then not out).

Bob Willis on Sky at the innings break saying that Daryl Harper should be sacked after his performance in this match. I'm inclined to agree, or at least never let him be the third umpire ever again..

He also said Harper is hopeless

What a shocking debacle.

Well that's just great.

You'd struggle to name many worse top 6's than England's out of the proper test sides.
Never mind, here's Ian Bell to save the day,

Hypothetically, how poorly would Cook have to bat in this series to be dropped for the home summer? I back his talent, but at some point you have to look at results and see that he has seemingly been going backwards over the last 12 months.

A very fair question. Much more of this and surely he has to go.
Possibly the most depressing aspect of our test side is the number of players who have failed to push on over the last few years.

As far as Im concerned, you pick your best players and ride out their blips (sometimes long blips)

The problem happens when poor players fail when they should never have been included.

If Cook is the right guy when in form then he is the right guy when out of form. IMO, cant chop and change on whims.

I think the problem would be finding someone who would replace him. Don't really think that he would be discarded for any length of time, so you wouldn't necessarily want to play someone for the long term. Personally, if his poor form continues, I would consider dropping him for the home WI series, and giving Vaughan a chance to open as a kind-of last shot at Test cricket.

Last 12 months he's played 13 matches, 762 runs @ 33.13, high score of 72. And that doesn't include the 4 & 0 he's made in this test either.

Up to that point his record was 24 tests, 1936 runs @ 45.02, 7 hundreds. Considering that earlier period includes the Ashes whitewash, home defeat to India, tricky tour of SL etc. there has definitely been a regression, for whatever reason.

Or Rob Key. Not that I'm saying we're at that point yet.
