*Official* England in West Indies 2022

Looks like patience is key again here. Seems to have more pace and bounce in this deck (that’s not difficult though) so hopefully runscoring and strokeplay will come easier, despite our rather turgid opening session.
I genuinely don;t think that was the pitch tbh, Root was hitting through the line with ease when he chose to. I think it was just caution and that Lees is pretty limited.

I agree mate, I think there were enough shots timed well enough to suggest it will be easier to play your shots here. After a couple of failures in his first Test I certainly don’t blame Lees for taking his time and getting himself established at the crease.

I also get the sense England have been allowed to leave the ball a lot in that first session, the stats may not support that claim but it felt that way to me.

Yep, Kemar Roach in particular with his away swingers to Lees. Seales was much better against the right handers though.

Oh Josh :(. We don't want to be dropping Root. That's 2 lives already. He will make us pay.

Yes not an easy one down the legside for da Silva but once he got there he’d be disappointed he’s not kept hold of it. Root would’ve been spewing had he got out strangled down the leg.

Anyone know when an England test attack was this inexperienced? I'm sure I remember a dead rubber test at home, possibly against the WI, when Bresnan, Finn and Onions played together.

Was that the one when Tino Best scored 90?

And here's one for you.

McCague and Ilott on debut, Caddick playing his second test and Such playing his third. A grand total of three previous tests for the bowling attack will take some beating.

Trying to strangle Root maybe a pretty good tactic, does play that shot loosely.

On the pitch, I don't actually think there's much wrong with this pitch on a first day, there's some pace and spin, it's just if it deteriorates as pitches used too, if it doesn't we're in for another hideous match.

I don't think I've ever seen Fisher bowl on Tv or anything, maybe the first English debutant I've never seen in my memory. Hey maybe the new Jimmy Anderson for all I know.

I'd love Lawrence to make a big score (no jinx). Flat pitch, once you're in there are runs to be had. He just looks the part, fluent in the opposite way to Pope's skittishness.

John Campbell is putting in one of the worst ever individual displays of fielding here. 2 easy run outs missed and a laughable error on the boundary already.
