Who ever came up with the idea that Woakes and Overton were a feared new ball duo.Robinson and Wood injured every other game.We really are in trouble

This is increasingly reminding me of the first test in the 2009 series. That time we made 318 in the first innings. WI's lead was a bit bigger than what it should eventually be here, but not insurmountable. Until England were dismissed for 51 in their second innings to end the game in a hurry. The other similarity was that was the first game of Strauss's captaincy after KP was sacked, and this is the first game under his stewardship post Giles and Silverwood. England fans of a nervous disposition may want to avert their gaze from our second innings here.

Our attack can look rather ‘samey’ and lacking any x-factor at the best of times on surfaces such as this let alone when we lose Mark Wood for the innings. Overton banging away halfway down at less that 80mph is surely taking more out of him than it’s worth!

Surely this is the worst England team for over 50 years and I can’t see it improving.Root must surely not be allowed to go on as captain as he really does not know what to do when we are under pressure

Think the others have answered your query well enough, though I'll also add that away from home WI in general are poorer in both disciplines against most of the Test nations, which also plays a bit into one's statistics away from home.
Well it was your query. Btw Gabriel doesn't do as well away from 'comparatively". He's much like the others. I checked a few years ago on their batting and they did a little better away from home suggesting the local wickets for tests do favour seam bowling; but also the batting is generally rubbish while the bowling at least does well at home.

The West Indian batting stonewalled very well in that game too. But IIRC it seemed to be a much more difficult pitch than this one.
