**Official** England in The West Indies

I wish non-test FC averages would be used more. Helpful when assessing a player like Hick as it would highlight how strong he was in one aspect while illustrating his weaknesses at another.

After all they are such a disparity in standard it's akin to having different averages for one-day and FC cricket.

Are you seriously telling me that you've never seen non-Test FC used, marc?
Yes, I have never seen it used except, obviously, for players who are yet to play a Test.

No, the one-day and First-Class game are totally different.
Non-Test-First-Class and Test-matches are played by the same rules, so so what if there's a difference in standard?

But why shouldn't it be used? Test cricket is a higher level of competition than FC domestic cricket, therefore it's not the same and a player should be able to be judged on performance at that lower level exclusively, as well as at the higher level.

Well the Englishmen arrive tonight to start an interesting tour no doubt.

None of the players were born the last time England won in the West Indies.

I think it will be a great series...both sides are coming off relatively disappointing tours of Sri Lanka & South Africa respectively so there's much to play for.

I think the WI will e much more disheartened by their tour of SA than England will by their tour of SL.

I think that this series will be a close one as both sides seem to have equal abilities. If I had to pick one side to win it would be England but only just.

The impact of Brian Lara will be the key. Will he be motivated to score lots of runs or will he struggle.

The bowling line ups look ordinary and on some of the dead pitches that seem to be the norm in the West Indies these days there could be a lot of runs scored and quickly. Both bowling line ups have potential so we'll see who comes up to the mark.

Sabina Park appears to have a decent track this year and Kensington is always the most balanced pitch IMO, so it could be interesting.

Hinds and Lawson are both in the Jamaica squad for England's first warm-up match starting Monday.

Perhaps an outside chance of Lawson featuring in the test series?

Hinds could also put himself in contention for the vacant-ish middle order spot (I'm assuming Devon Smith will be opening).

Considering that Lawson was still said to have a faulty action until about a month ago, that remedial work was quite swift.

Well give them some credit for correcting his action in a month.

I think it's more likely that they're letting him play with a faulty action.

BTW...
121 for Sarwan yesterday
81 for Chanders.
69 not out for Bernard.

IMO neither are likely to have much effect.
Certainly with West Indies' tendency of relaxed style, they're unlikely to remember it with any clarity.
Just hope for their sake they learned from what they needed to learn from.

Yet another debutant for the West Indies....Dwight Washington.

I think it's time the West Indies looked for consistency in selection, really.
