Must have some compromising pictures of the selectors. Probably the worst player to play for England in my lifetime.

sounds like this Whitaker presser (or whatever it is) is a delightful farce

International Vice-Captain
Don't know what the press were expecting. Nearly always a confidentiality clause around the end of a contract like this. Not a good look but somewhat inevitable when you can't talk about it.

Squad ok I guess. Weren't many options. Patel would have been a better bet than Ali going into a WC but they've clearly binned Samit permanently because of his fitness. Dernbach shouldn't be playing international cricket but his selection just shows the lack of alternatives. Gurney in the WI squad but not the T20 WC.

Pietersen-less squad for West Indies tour and World T20

Pietersen-less squad for West Indies tour and World T20

DAVID CLOUGH Thursday 06 February 2014
The Independent

Kevin Pietersen and England have urgent matters to address as they press on with their respective separate lives.

The ending of Pietersen's England and Wales Cricket Board central contract will be an imminent formality, once legal details have been agreed, following his enforced international retirement.

He will therefore be open at next week's Indian Premier League auction to highly lucrative offers, starting at a base price of £194,000 but estimated to reach much higher for a full campaign - something he has apparently long craved but several times been denied by circumstance.

England, meanwhile, must set their stall out in the brave new world managing director Paul Downton, Alastair Cook and others have engineered - by announcing their squad on Thursday lunchtime, without Pietersen or indeed the rested captain, for a limited-overs tour of West Indies and then World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

It means there will be precious little time to draw breath for the key protagonists, after a fraught 24 hours since the ECB announced Pietersen was no longer part of its plans.

There was an uneasy tone to events on Wednesday as, one by one, expert commentators and affected parties had their say on an event long feared yet somehow surreal once the deed was finally done.

Pietersen's wife sprung to his defence on Twitter; the man himself spoke of his own sadness; a string of high-profile former Test captains made their feelings clear, as did Australian great Shane Warne - and finally England wicketkeeper Matt Prior angrily denied accusations made against him by celebrity cricket follower Piers Morgan.

The latter, a noted Twitter agitator of England management since they reached the end of the road with his friend Pietersen, decided to rattle Prior's cage by alleging "hypocrisy" over remarks he claims were made in team meetings.

The England vice-captain responded at length via the same medium: "I'm not the kind of person to divulge what is said in team meetings - but all I will say is that Flower, Cook and the rest of my team mates know exactly what I said & the way in which it was meant!

"There is no story here, just an attempt to knock someone who has only ever had the team's best interests at heart and tried my best on and off the field to help the England cricket team.

"I can hold my head up high in that knowledge!"

Jessica Taylor, aka Mrs Pietersen, was equally dismissive of Sky Sports pundit Dominic Cork's suggestion of a "dust-up" between her husband and his former captain Cook in Sydney while England were descending to their fifth and final trouncing.

Michael Vaughan took a similarly disparaging view of that version of events; England batting coach Graham Gooch felt unable to provide any telling first-hand testimony from his time in the dressing-room this winter - and unsurprisingly Warne concluded, on Twitter, that Pietersen's axing at the age of 33 is a "disgrace" and the ECB "in a shambles".

It is against that backdrop of sound and fury that England must keep their eye on the ball to pick a competitive 15-man squad to challenge for a global trophy, and Pietersen must find his IPL franchise - and pick and choose which media opportunities he fancies between domestic Twenty20 assignments.

Possible England squad (v West Indies, and for ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh): SCJ Broad (capt), AD Hales, LJ Wright, EJG Morgan, JC Buttler (wkt), RS Bopara, BA Stokes, CJ Jordan, TT Bresnan, JC Tredwell, DR Briggs, GS Ballance, SR Patel, MJ Lumb, JW Dernbach.

It doesn't show lack of alternatives, it shows how absolutely ****ing clueless the selectors are.

Revolving door for many players, whilst proven ****house players like Bopara and Turdbach get picked until the end of time.

Turdbach fair enough. But this guy?.....

He should be captain.

England are supposed to be undergoing a changing of the guard. Building to future success. The next World Cup is in Australia & New Zealand and Ravi '****house' Bopara has just been absolutely atrocious across 8 matches apart from one innings, in a different format to the World Cup, in a situation where the innings was completely and utterly meaningless - ie the only scenario where he doesn't bottle it.

He's proven to be a total liability in T20. He's poor in ODIs and doesn't have a role. He's too ****e to bat in the top 4-5 and doesn't have the bottle to finish the job lower down the order.

First move of the new 'era' picking a squad with ****house and Turdbach in it. What a revolution.

for Scaly.

Even though I agree with him wholeheartedly about Dernbach, honestly pick seamers out of a hat, better pick than Jade. Just no justification.

Well here is the Chancellors x1 squad that will play England in a warm up match at the sir viv stadium in antigua!!..

SQUAD: Steven Jacobs (captain) Nicholas Alexis, Adrian Barath, Jonathan Carter, Kyle Corbin, Miguel Cummins, Akeem Dewar, Paul Palmer, Raymon Reifer, Dawayne Sealy, Devon Thomas, Chadwick Walton

MANAGEMENT Floyd Reifer (Coach) Steven Leslie (Manager) Curtly Ambrose (Bowling Consultant) Andrew Simpson (Physio/Trainer)
Link

Decent little squad...not too familiar with Palmer and Sealy..but apparently the former is a top order batsman who can bowl a bit and the latter is a seamer... the rest have played at various levels..

Barath
Alexis
Palmer
Corbin
Carter (right arm seamer)
Reifer (left arm fast)
Walton (wk)
Jacobs (c) (off-break)
Dewar (leg-break)
Sealy (right arm medium)
Cummings (right arm fast)

Some notes on some of the players..

Barath= he's just gone downhill since he last played for WI...in the current one day competition going on he hasn't looked good at all...so i'm rather surprised he's playing but who knows he might just rediscover his tough in this game.

Carter= got a ton the other day against Trinidad and got a ton for the A-team in india...one of the young batsmen in the caribbean who people believe can step up and play for WI..has all the shots and is a stylish left-hander...a good score here could see him play in the series

Reifer= Cousin of Floyd Reifer...he's a good alround talent who can both bat and bowl...

Corbin= Another young batsman with a lot of potential...gets starts and looks good but often throws it away...needs to step up now and get more big scores

Dewar= Tall leggy who gets bounce..had a decent season last year for CCC so it will be interesting to see how he fairs against international players

Cummings= Very talented Barbados pacer who many believe will be the next one to step up for WI..was the best pacer in last years four day competition and then went to India and impressed for the A-team...a good performance here might see him get a look in for this series aswell.

Would have liked to have seen Ronsford Beaton get a game and maybe Kirk Edwards seeing as he needs match practise but all in all i'm ok with this squad.
