Malinga has always been far far more accurate than the run leaking wonder Shaun Tait !! (although that's not that hard given Tait's economy !! )

He also won't be there for very long at the start of the innings after nicking out.
I agree with you on that i think its about time everyone realizes that Freddie might never be the same player that we saw in Ashes 05, his batting has been really awful since 05 and one can't say that he is going through a slump in form for 2 years now, its just that he has got worked over by bowlers around the world and to some extent he probably wasn't able to handle all the media attention and the pressure of being a genuine all-rounder in modern day cricket.
Freddie still continues to be a really good bowler so England should just look to utilise that skill of his and if he scores some runs too then they should just consider it as a bonus.

Until we have something better to judge by, I'm happy to go with Read. The cases of Foster (back in 2001\02), Jones, Prior, etc. demonstrate all too well what happens when you think you're a better judge of the game than the game itself.
Can't agree about Read, he is a keeper's version to the Ramprakash's, Salisbury's etc. Their prolic domestic form hides the fact that they have huge flaws on their game that hinders them from being very successful in international cricket & highlights the fact that even though CC is the premier domestic competition in world cricket the standard of play can be misleading in determining whether some blokes can make the next step.

Flintoff is an indispensable player regardless of his form with the bat. His bowling performances in this one day series have been absolutely tremendous, and they seem even more remarkable when you take into consideration the uncertainity surrounding his ankle/knee and any pain he might be in.

And to all these people who say he cannot bat, i'm afraid their idea is nothing more than farcical. He's always had a fairly poor temperament and shot selection with the bat, but there is no doubt that when he is on form, he is a very capable international lower order batsman who can hit the ball a helluva long way. Stick him down the order in the one dayers and hope he can be used in the last 5-10 overs to slog it out of the ground. Opening the batting with him really messes with the balance of the side and I can't see it working anyway.

He obviously needs to work on his batting though in test cricket to ensure he can remain a solid no. 6 for England, providing he can prove his fitness over 5 days.

Flintoff has never really been worthy of a number-six position in Tests TBH.

I'll post a more detailed analysis of why when it's not my birthday.

But these players are better than the rubbish who can't even do well at the domestic level. Salisbury > Schofield, Ramprakash > Chris Adams (for example). Similarly, Read (in OD cricket) > Jones and Prior.

Anyway, Ramprakash didn't have any technical flaws like Read, his problems all concerned temperament. Salisbury had some technical and some psychological problems.

With Prior still in the side i think Lankans would enjoy a lot free runs in form of byes and to add to that they would always have an early wicket as a gift.
