Don't think this series is the time to bring in youth players and force Vaas and Jayasuriya to retire, especially mid series. West Indies is the tour for that really. But I will back De Silva to play ahead of Dilhara if he is not 100% fit. The guy is useless with any slight injury, needs to be 100% or not playing IMO.

On another note Jehan Muburak shows why the selectors can continue to get away with selecting him in squads. Once again in the 1st innings he out scored his more talented team mates with 68. The guy just keeps scoring these medicore 50s for representive sides. Last season he was the leading run scorer for Sri Lanka A outside Warnapura, i don't think he even scored hundred. He was actually the leading run scorer in ODs. Granted he played more matches then anyone else and batted himself down the order if the pitch did anything.

When it comes down to it until guys like Warnapura, Kapugedera, MDK Perera, Udawatte, JK Silva and others need start to play with more consistency or he will continue to get selected. Outside Warnapura the others don't really have a case to get ahead of him, in terms of runs scored. He also out scored Dilshan, Samaraweera, Vandort, Tharanga and Chamara Silva during their time for Sri Lanka A recently.

The guy pisses me off, but it more annoying that the other guys can't put together more runs to justify a spot on the back of something more then potential to get ahead of him. Surely its not that hard to out score someone who can't score hundreds.

Looks like it. Didn't he pull up lame in the nets at the start of the tour as well?
Looks like an interesting wicket right now, with the Pres XI 32 for 5
Haha NCC at its best, solid track first day. No bounce, plenty of movement and spins a mile days 2-3. You would have thought they produce a half decent track for tour match. But i guess crap square to work with, there is not much you ca do.

I'm Hoping Tharanga gets a decent run in the test team as he has the makings of a champion opener, he's got the shots and is prepared to play them. He needs to be a little more selective when he plays them but I would give him Marvin's spot for this series and think he should have played Against Australia.

I have not seen the wicket but it was De Silva with 4 in The English innings and Hoggard with 5 here, these guys are not spinners.

Yeah, they wanted to play Shah and Bopara off against each other, with Colly assured of a place he was the one to miss out this time round

The joy of English batsmanship. Bell's innings sounded particularly horrific, but I can't see how he's being helped by oscillating between 3 & 6. And, once again, the sheer idiocy of present-day scheduling, as England "prepare" for a test in 5 days time. This is going to be gruesome, isn't it.
Yeah, it's ridiculous, but I've almost ceased to worry about it, it's been that way for a fair few seasons now. We've still managed to win plenty of away series despite it. We can hope it'll change back to the way it would do best to be sometime soon, but that's all we can do - hope. It's not entirely within the power of The ECB.

Yeah, gonna be an interesting report. BTSOT though, including Tharmi's post, that's virtually par-for-the-course. At least of some consolation to see Hoggard get 8 in the match, but seeing Bopara opening and Pietersen being on 2nd-change is pretty painful.

I'm not sure it's that many series wins away from home in recent years. If you ignore Bangladesh & WI, who barely count, then there's only SA since the twin Asian tours in 2000/2001. And we wouldn't have won in SA if there attack was anything like what we'd faced in 1999/2000 or if they'd picked their best attack at Port Elizabeth.
Do you remember how many warm-ups we played in 2000/2001? Sorry, I'm too lazy to check right now.

About 2, 3 at the most.

Since the SA tour in 1999\2000 everything has been woefully underdone.

Wouldn't say WI barely count, either, TBH, and nor did you. :p

Either way, it's not just the wins - only fairly rarely have we been clear second-best in recent years despite the lack of tour-games. That's my point TBH.

"Only when Vaughan's side has retrieved the Ashes can we describe them as world-beaters, etc, etc. There is just one problem with that line of thought. It's complete tosh."

You were completely off there David :@
