Give them the light, even I am feeling sorry for them
Dude has a 213 run stake in the 418 runs England trail by.Talikng of Jayawardene, he has had rather a lot to say for himself this series, hasn't he. First we had the stuff at Columbo about England batting too negatively (er pots & kettles anyone?) and today he's been publicly saying that we gave up yesterday. OK, so it's probably true, but you don't need to tell the world that about your opponents. And again, pots & kettles spring to mind after SL's white flag job in Aus last month.
Third-biggest, I think. The lead in that game (we did indeed bat first) was actually only 363, I'd thought it was bigger than that.We batted first last time, didn't we. There may well have been a 400+ first innings lead then, as well. IIRC the innings loss was one of, if not the biggest, in our history.
Nope, but he doesn't need to enfore the follow-on. I'd always only ever enforce follow-on if it's essential. Too many people, for mine, take the "follow-on as a rule, don't use follow-on as an exception".As for the follow on, there's no reason at all not to enforce it unless he's been reading too much about 'mental disintegration' or somesuch. The bowlers are hardly going to be knackered, are they.
They want to be home before Christmas Eve...Probably the shock of actually facing one after the rain break.
England will probably be praying that it doesn't rain tomorrow morning, so they can be back in time for the weekend.
Really, I could see the logic to that if it wasn't for the bad weather around. Enforcing the follow on gives Sri Lanka the best chance of winning the match, so it's definitely the right decision for mine.Nope, but he doesn't need to enfore the follow-on. As I said - the series is wrapped-up, you could inflict an even more impressive defeat by batting again. And if it rains and mucks it up, it doesn't matter.
What an awesome start for the New Galle Stadium from a SriLankan view point....81 all out is an embarassment! Win very much on for SL, even if day 4 is rained out.
This was substantially worse. This too. This was hardly flash either. That was perhaps the sinlge most inept test match batting performance I've seen since Australia got rolled for 76 vs the Windies in the 80s at Perth.
He (Vaas) deserved a 5 'fer. What an extraordinary run-out! That livens things up a bit. Shame Vaas is denied a five-for by that a bit, but never mind.
I really would love it if he batted again here TBH.
Basically. England's bowling performance was far too schizophrenic to pressure SL for any concerted period of time. That coupled with some dire work in the field and overall lack of intensity, explains why the game is at where it is right now. Had SL bowled first, Vaas et al wouldn't have bowled a great deal differently.Reckon had Vaughan batted first Vaas, Chanaka and Maaalinga would've knocked us over TBH.
LOL.
Who or what is Bopara? What does he bring?
I bet his mum makes a mean chocolate roulade..LOL.
Bopara is a throwback to the late 90s and England’s fascination with bits and pieces cricketers who sadly are not good enough in both disciplines to warrant test selection.
Yeah, little in common with Vaas other than the arm he bowls with. Given his First-Class economy-rate is poor TSTL, his accuracy today was impressive. Looked like he could get it down fairly heavily, too, which is always a plus, and pushed the speedster up towards 140kph. But it was alarming how little he swung the ball, and his only 2 wickets came from batsmen playing down the wrong line of straight balls.he looked a bit flat to me, maybe it was the pitch.. People are already comparing him to Vaas, and I think the only similarity is the Left Arm-ness..What are people’s feelings about Welegedara?
I've never seen him bowl before but liked what I saw. If he can add a few more toys to his armoury, I'd be inclined to pick him ahead of Front Foot Fernando every time. Admittedly, I was disappointed Sujeewa De Silva get a go in this test, but I hope Welegedaragets an extended run with the side - i.e. the up-coming ODI series against Australia.
Don't get me wrong, it's his first test and he doesn't look bad, but I wasn't particularly excited by him..
