Are you seriously suggesting that nobody thought England would win a game. I find it hard to believeNo surprise there - only that we actually managed to win a couple in the series, which not many folks would have predicted.
Is this England side going anywhere? We seem to be perpetually short of 2 or 3 players to make us genuine contenders. On the face of it there's the making of a side for the following WC, but that's assuming that our newer players develop into something more substantial.
Of course, Sanga's farewell ton overshadowed everything today. A wonderful innings from a wonderful player. The sort of cricketer we gave up producing many moons ago.
Until he got the ODI captaincy you meanCook's a genuinely good chap, but he's a serviceable captain at best and doesn't even look like scoring just now.
Until he got the test captaincy it should be remembered he wasn't in the ODI reckoning. He found a way to make it work when he was in prime nick, but he patently isn't just now so his position is becoming untenable.
He only thing keeping him in the job, aside from selectorial largesse/loyality/pigheadness (delete according to taste), is that his most obvious successor (Morgan) is in a trough of form himself just now.
The most obvious choice for all formats would be Rashid, turned into a serious gun with Yorkshire in all formats, still young and skilled in all facets of the game.Unlikely to get into the world cup squad, but I'd be shocked if he didn't play for England in the next 12 months.Does England have any decent spinner ATM (other than Tredwell) in their domestic circuits ?
Came as part of the test stewardship, didn't it?Until he got the ODI captaincy you mean
Nah was a good 18 months earlierCame as part of the test stewardship, didn't it?
I stand corrected. Strauss gave ODIs away after the last WC?Nah was a good 18 months earlier
Yeah that's right.I stand corrected. Strauss gave ODIs away after the last WC?
Thing with Rashid is he is an allrounder and we already have Moeen as a spinning allrounder in the side, not sure we can pick both in the same side. Serious lack of options though around the counties. The most obvious choice for all formats would be Rashid, turned into a serious gun with Yorkshire in all formats, still young and skilled in all facets of the game.Unlikely to get into the world cup squad, but I'd be shocked if he didn't play for England in the next 12 months.
Pity he's not been doing that then isn't it?A consistent 30 at better than a run a ball is welcome imo..
I suppose Rashid does turn it the opposite way to Moeen, so they're not identical by any means. Beyond that, he's a genuine bowler who can also bat rather than a bit-of-both type of player, so I wouldn't hold that against him. Ditto Moeen of course.Thing with Rashid is he is an allrounder and we already have Moeen as a spinning allrounder in the side, not sure we can pick both in the same side. Ali isn't doing that?Pity he's not been doing that then isn't it?
True, but any team would welcome someone who averages ~40 at 110 at the top of the order. No he hasn't, hence me saying it. He's been out under 20 in about half his innings. That's not consistently getting 30.
