*Official* England in South Africa

The pitch looks green. Odds on for England and Anderson to be effective.
Ha that would be pleasant suprise if Centurion is bowler friendly, its usually such a road. Although i do remember when AUS toured SA in 97, Centurion was very seamer friendly.

This could be an encouragement for ENG to pick 4-seamers..

That's why there has only been two draws (due to the weather) in 14 tests and 400 has been surpassed only six times and only once over 500 and that was against a hapless West Indies side.

407 wickets have been taken at Centurion in 14 tests @ 30.62 and that is including said West Indies side, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Road my ass.

Am more looking forward to aussie hitting back with the trademark poor attempt to dig himself out of a hole rather than admit he was wrong.

Getting Sky Sports back in a couple of days. My kids will get an education in Test Cricket this weekend. Excellent.

Haa ok maybe calling it "road" is a bit too strong. But Centurion is definately the most batting friendly track in SA, very similar to the Adelaide Oval - but unlike roads/batting friendly pitches in subcontinent the bounce is usually consistent. Very surprised at those figures, but I reckon those stats are that good in Saffies favour because the likes of WI, NZ, SRI, PAK, BANG have played there alot instead of AUS & ENG. So SA have had alot of easy opponents.

Since when England played there in 04/05 it was definately the best batting pitch of that series.

If the pitch is green, definitely hope we bowl first. Don't want to come back from school and see us skittled for <150

Always good to see a pitch with a bit in it for the seamers. Makes for better cricket.

(Or failing that, a bent home captain with a shiny new leather jacket to pay for)

What team are we expecting then? If the seamers had been fit I'd have fancied Bell at 6, just the last thing we need is Jimmeh to pull up towards the back end of Day 1 and spend the rest of the Test with Onions, Broad, Swann and Collingwood.

If it is a green-top, 6 batters, Prior at 7 then Broad, Sidebottom, Anderson & Onions.
Not the worst attack actually, if they're all fit.

As I said earlier, will be pleasantly surprised if Onions plays.

Anderson has somehow assumed the mantle England's go to bowler, the number one seamer - when for me he should still be a bit part player because he's just totally anonymous most of the time.
Sidebottom gets picked as soon as he's vaguely fit.
Broad will obviously play.
Can't see another seamer playing unless it's Wright.

I quite like the sound of a greentop and a 4-man pace attack.

So:

Cook
Strauss
Trott
KP
Collingwood
Bell
Prior
Broad
Sidebottom
Anderson
Onions

Ironically Mark Davies doesn't seem to stand much of a chance even though if it's a green-top then he would be as good a pick as anyone. Would be harsh on Swann to get dropped due to the conditions but that's the spinner's lot in life.

Just seen on SSN that Trott is confirmed to bat three whilst Bell may bat at six. Nothing breaking but we can all breathe a sigh of relief hey.
