This is why he needs to bat 3 or 4 or not at all. He isn't intelligent enough or good enough player to play in this kind of situation. He bats at 3 or 4 and he can bat properly and allow himself to get in when the ball is new and get himself in. But obviously England have a load of good options at 3 and 4 so it's a complex issue. Especially as you obviously need bowlers in the top 7. Moeen's similar. Needs to bat 1,2 or 3 or 8 imo.

Slow pitch and Stokes convinces himself he has to play really differently. Hales has to ton up and be not out ideally at the end.

Traditionally bits and pieces 5/6th bowlers do well against England. so nice to see us attacking and putting pressure on them so far this series.

The only way SA have a chance is if they slow up Hales a bit while he looks for his hundred.

Urgh, feel sorry for Hales. Batted really well, proverbial 'deserved a hundred' but think we've found a long term player in ODI game.
