This has been a quality few overs from Finn despite the long hop he just bowled while I was typing this.
For my own convenience, I've made a par wicket list for batting first. Sure enough, it's a bit random, as it doesn't hold any sort of indepth analysis of type of pitch, conditions, or abilities of batsmen or bowlers. Let alone the difference between the 7th wicket being the in form #3 having faced 200 deliveries, or the fresh #8. But here you go:Could go either way, couldn't it. If we do shift one of these two quite quickly, I'm still not convinced by Bavuma when there's less than 400 on the board and I've never heard of Vilas.
otoh AB could rack up a ton in no time and we're in trouble.
Lord's a couple years back against the Saffers. Probably easily forgotten, as England lost. But he did get Kallis (twice, though one was dodgy), Amla (twice) & ABdV. In my memory, those were some very decent spells!Perhaps it is a tall fast bowler thing (Morkel seems to do it as well) but Finn never quite takes the amount of wickets his spell suggests he should. Great stuff though.
Saffers have started rebuilding quite nicely though
Broad had one ball of the edge missing the slips, and one decent LBW shout. Not that Broad can ever have a decent LBW shout, but you get what I mean .I think the whole 'England wasted the new ball' sentiment is correct to an extent, but it's being overplayed imo. Broad wasn't up to it but it's not like he sent down pies, there were a couple of seriously good balls in there. Anderson was pretty good I though although he didn't attack the stumps as much as he should've. Finn was a bit too short but that's how he typically rolls iirc. All in all though, it wasn't that easy batting first up and there were still a fair amount of deliveries that might've gotten less cautious batsmen out.
