Nah, this wicket is flat no doubt about it but SA bowled absolute rubbish on it. No way our attack will be that bad........if we're tuned on today in the field we'll get the chances and take wickets. AB and Hash in the shed and it's all over.

I distinctly remember seeing Piedt get a decent amount of turn on day 1, and Morkel getting a bit of movement with the semi-old ball.

Didn't seem that flat tbh. SA just don't have an attack to do much on it. Morkel and Rabada barely move the ball anyways, and Morris probably hasn't been bowling as well as he could. Conditions don't really suit swing bowling either. Did Broad get anything out of the pitch?

I also heard the Sky comms describe it as 'slow' while I was watching. This was day 1 around the time Taylor and Root were dismissed and Stokes/Butler were just getting started. I didn't watch enough of the game to be able to make a call myself, but it's interesting to read this thread after all that has happened and hear it being described as one with pace and bounce in it. Were the TV commentators lulled into believing it was a slow wicket by the way England's top order batter and got out after their starts? Or were the fans tricked into believing this wicket had pace and bounce in it after watching Morkel and Rabada run in hard and bang it in, only to be slapped around disdainfully by Stokes/Bairstow?

Definitely remember Piedt getting some really good bounce though.

Eng 2.42 on Betfair has got to be immense value surely? Obviously Saffers are capable of a draw but I would have thought Eng are at least 50-55% likely to win from here. Eng win odds about 40-50 cents too high - anyone agree?

Just caught the second session of yesterday that I had missed. Crazy stuff, incredible entertainment.

Imagine how cool it must've been to witness Barry Richards smash 325 in a day in those days.

I'd agree. I'd theoretically put it at about 50/50 between the draw and the England victory, but the way SA has been playing recently it should probably be higher.

Plus the pitch looks like it'll actually turn a bit in the later days, and we are naturally horrendous against spin. Could definitely see us collapsing in our second innings.

One last stat from me before getting back to actual cricket this morning -

Cook scored 263 in Abu Dhabi and Stokes scored 258 here. If the latter innings were as long as the first, with the same strike rate, it would have been 687 runs.

Yeah Finn bowling better lines than Anderson, but the way DeVilliers is playing, its incredible poor compared to what he's capable of
Particularly the lone bat he's been of late

Saffers got the blockathon on here. Makes sense to wear down our bowlers but would have thought transferring pressure to them makes more sense, think they will look to attack Moeen.
