Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
It certainly will be interesting.wpdavid said:I don't think there will be a clearcut handing over the crown like from WI to Aus in 1995. I just don't see English cricket producing quite the quality of players to achieve that. In some ways though, what we're going to see over the next 5 years or so will be more interesting
Within the next 2 - 3 years, Aus will lose 3 all-time greats in McGrath, Warne and Gilchrist. The last time something similar happened was in 82/83 when Marsh, Chappell, and Lillee left at the same time, producing one of the darkest periods in Aus cricket history.
Whilst I dont expect them to fall into the same abyss, it would be foolhardy to suggest that the team wont be weakened to a degree.
Can another team replace them as no.1? Of course.
Is there another team out there that potentially has world class players from 1 - 11 AND has the mental strength to perform under all scenarios? Probably no on both counts at present.
It all makes for a much more even playing field and more entertaining cricket.
