Guess they will all get a game at some point. Hope Stokes is actually properly fit, think we are past the stage where having a half version of him is worth it.
One thing in spinning Asian conditions to have Stokes purely as a batter (not that he’s a very good batter in those conditions lol), another thing entirely in New Zealand where we could really do with some bowling from him. Assuming he can bowl, I think the only change in the batting lineup will be Cox as a straight swap for Smith, think Woakes (yes, I think he gets another go, he performed dutifully on the most unfriendly of wickets in Multan, New Zealand even if they prepare flatties should be more to his fancy), Carse, Atkinson, Potts and Stone each get a go. Not sure if it’s quite last chance saloon for Pope considering the lack of alternatives, but it’s certainly a big series for him, what I will say is that New Zealand is probably the place that resembles England the most so it wouldn’t surprise me if he does get runs

Congrats Pakistan! You combined barbecuing with cricket perfectly in this third test to come up with the win. Well done.

Apologies to my English friends. I am down the coast enjoying some beautiful beach weather and am once again late with my commiserations. I just want you to know:

Aussie selectors are currently monitoring a couple of 13 year old spinners playing for the Bonnie Doon Under 14s who are a big chance of playing in the upcoming Ashes series out here.

So, the moment Babar, Shaheen, and Naseem are kicked out, Pakistan become semi competitive.

They should be kept out for a bit more.

Does Stokes warrant a place in the side? Does not bowl, forcing the 4 bowlers to be worked to the ground. And rarely makes contributions with the bat.
Australia is the one team he has scored against although he averaged 28 in Australia.
He has to make runs in NZ otherwise his place in the XI should be questioned.

I think as an all rounder he’s a massive asset, without his bowling option though I think it’s right we assess his runs like a full time batsman

Whatever it takes!!!
Very happy to see Pak winning in proper SC manner with the finger spinners doing the damage with both bat and ball. I dunno if this is sustainable or whatever but at least they are out of the funk they were in. That means a lot. Hopefully they kick on instead of again messing up stuff.

England bet everything on winning the toss and while some of their out there calls have yielded results, perhaps they have to look at more than just "tall guy should bowl well" based on 3 overs in the nets etc. before selecting someone to be their premier spinner. I mean, Bashir may well learn and become a very good spinner but you always have to try to win the series in front of you first, as India have realized to their horror in the other series.

And much like India, England's problem will be that their worst batsmen are their captain and vice captain. Technically, Virat is not our vice captain but the 2 guys who would be the last ones you wanna drop are the ones who deserve to be dropped the most on current form. Its an absolute jam but for England, at least, its SC away and its been the norm for them to lose here.

Very good series: Brook, Root, Duckett, Carse, Atkinson, Rehan
OK series: Smith, Potts, Leach, Crawley
Poor series: Pope, Stokes, Bashir, Woakes

Maybe it's Rehan who should get the run in the side rather than Bashir.

They'll need something different against fellow Asian teams, but up against the rest (apart from possibly New Zealand who have gone from inept in Sri Lanka to beating India lol), they should be preparing more pitches like these

Is one innings (albeit a generational one!) from Root and Brook enough to put them in the very good category? Duckett at least had some measure of consistency with 3 innings of 50+ which has solidified his reputation as one of our best players of spin. The seamers had no track record of doing it on flat and spinning decks in the heat of Pakistan, so to do what they did was very encouraging, the spin attack was a mixed bag to say the least, but you know, we don't come to Asia again for ages so we'll go back to focusing on the Ashes as we always do

Surely Brook, Root and Rehan Ahmed had a (very) good game rather than a very good series.

Wonder what would have happened if England had scored 300 less in the first test and it petered out into a high scoring draw?
