Part of the thinking may have been that with Southee out, and Boult maybe not needing to bat, those guys could warm up without "giving away" to Eng when the declaration was coming?

He needs to land the ball in the right areas more consistency to pick up a swag of wickets. Has struggled with his control since Sri Lanka for mine.
