Sorry Tom but this is very poor captaincy. How are you trying to get a wicket here?

You have picked 4 fast bowlers all of whom should be fresh after lunch. Fine, Smith and Henry have taken a bit of a pasting after lunch but you still have 2 others on a wicket with decent bounce and carry.

Imagine having a 145 kph 6'6 inswinging giant in your team and you're instead bowling a part time offspinner in the second session of a Basin Reserve test match.

We could do with a left arm pace bowler to change things up to Brook and Pope, we went from having two in Boult and Wagner to having none.

Wagner in particular was good at breaking partnerships like this and getting that badly needed wicket.

Bowling GP for a couple doesn't preclude the skipper from bowling O'Rourke. It's gone south pretty quickly because Southee has been preferred to O'Rourke, who should have started with the new ball.

Well sure, we could bowl 90 overs of Rachin and Phillips and Mitchell and then when they're on 600 we could bring on our good bowlers.
Or we could actually bowl our good bowlers.

Brook is on 91 now.

Are they saving O'Rourke to bowl with the wind after Henry? Phillips' bowling record is pretty good so I can see why they would try him into the wind (if that's the case - not watching although I can see the flag on the Beehive is fluttering).
