Good wobble seam. Probably only umpire's call but it's enough.

Edit: clipping less than expected, NZ a little lucky.

I'm sorry but Crawley is disgusting and I really hope we don't let them get away with having a player like that opening the batting in test cricket.
oh thank **** for that.

Taking the piss when you select someone like that.

I think the chat around BC selections was more about how to whoever is selected, someone worthy is missing out. Young was player of the series in India, has to miss out here. Santner also performed in India. Hindsight is 20/20. If Kane got out cheaply here the chat would be ‘he’s so underdone, Young should be there’.
I definitely can see Phillips should be batting 6, it’s a waste to have what happened today happen.

Only just clipping on umpire's call, it looked more out than that, Crawley didn't even bother to review it.

I’m looking at getting a price for Southee to be man of the match in these last three tests

nothing available from the bookie I use yet

I still genuinely can't believe he's been picked. It feels like some sort of elaborate joke.
They definitely had no intention of playing him before the tour and even till a few days ago.

Defs just a pick to have him around the group and see what he's like. They carried Lawrence around doing that for a while and then Cox.

A culmination of events. Firstly Smith dropping out completely of the tour, then Cox finger break and then Robinson expired passport.

As Pope really can't bat 3 and keep someone had to do the job. Bravado of youth putting his hand up. The adults Root/Stokes should have fronted up and batted there instead.

A fine argument for not picking players for Test tours "just to see what they're like" without having any initial intention of playing them tbh. Obviously we'll see how he goes here but... seriously.

I'm certainly not condoning it mind. Just explaining how we got here.

I just burst out laughing as soon as it was announced he was selected.

Yeah if you want to do that sort of thing you should probably pick bigger squads.
Yep and not take 3 spinners and no backup keeper/frontline batsman.

A number 7 at best at this stage of his career is just a nonsense pick.

Hope he scores a ton but that would actually vindicate the stupidity from McCullum/Stoke over this squad selection.
