**Official** England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

Neither of our openers are.

Perhaps for tests 2 & 3 NZ should pick Santner as an opener like England picked Moeen as a 3.
Bring back good memories of Kyle Mills at 3.

Latham
Santner (sacrifice/gamble)
Williamson
Young
Ravindra
Mitchell
Phillips
Blundell
Smith
Henry
O'Rourke
Yeah, but think Latham struggling v high pace is common knowledge. Wasn't sure if if is for Conway. Santner opening would make McCullum and Stokes blush.

65-35 England. Get Kane early and we are bang in the driving seat.
As it ends up being the case the lead was a match winning lead.

But I was massively annoyed at the approach just before and after lunch. We definitely don't like grinding teams into the dirt, the other sides always got to have a chance. Atkinson and Stokes gave it away. Carse tried to give it away well before he got to 33 and Bashir jesus wept.

Atkinson's dismissal was tame but his innings propelled England to the driving seat and NZ were down after that. I don't think Stokes ever really decided on his own tempo until after lunch when slogging wasn't really the answer with all the time left in the match and NZ not totally dead and buried (we know what happened in the 2nd test here last time).

Kane batted very well but it couldn't just be him when they were facing such a deficit and then Woakes got him with a good ball which encapsulated England's bowling improvement on the first innings, pitching it up!
