*Official* England in New Zealand 2019

D/L

U19 Captain
Would that be Malan?

I'd rather see evidence of him being good in the longer forms of the game. Anything can happen in T20.

Talking about the batting lineup. Roy doesn't convince me at all. Banton is much younger and I think should be given a chance. I still think Roy can come in for Vince in the squad. Stokes comes in for Gregory. Archer in for Curran.

Roy
Banton
Malan
Morgan
Buttler
Stokes
Moeen
Archer
Jordan
Parkinson
Brown/Mahmood
Tom Curran over Brown/Mahmood surely

Banton looks really good. Just seems like a player who's been brought up on this format of the game.

I only saw some highlights of him in the Vitality and stuff, but he did seem like he favored the legside a lot. Going purely off the cricinfo commentary I think NZ knew that and bowled further outside off to him. Good to see him still crack most of his runs through the offside.

Yes I think it's fair to say he's a legside dominant player. KP and Roy are the two players that he gets compared to a lot of which I'd concur with. He certainly isn't bad through the offside. He's not one of those guys with the strong bottom hand that impairs his offside game. Don't see Banton making the world t20 squad though given the mass of options England have at the top and Banton's lack of experience. He's playing in the Big Bash though so that should give him a chance if he scores runs.

Morgan when he's on...he's on.
holy crap morgan and malan torched them

I didn't think malan had that in him, i'm not too surprised at morgan hitting 91 off 41..but 103 off 51 from malan, wow what a knock regardless of the conditions

He would have to knock Bairstow out, possible looking at Bairstow's average t20 stats however Bairstow is a demon in the field so u need to factor that in. also Bairstow seems to be able to pressure the selectors into picking him in all the formats..i think it's a combination of a lot of factors and I don't necessarily disagree but as an outsider it's always a tad harshon competitiors like foakes and in this case banton potentially but I understand it and don't actually care either way at this point because baristow is a fierce competitor that is good to havein theside regardless of form

I'd definitely have Bairstow ahead of Banton. Bairstow record isn't great in T20is but he hasn't played that much over the last couple of years since his improvement in ODI cricket. Did have a brilliant IPL season this year which is probably the highest quality domestic t20 league. As you say he's also an excellent fielder. I also think he's capable of batting in the middle order as a finisher type, not just top order. His power play now is up there with some of the worlds best in terms of clearing the boundary consistently, and is also lightning between the wickets. Bairstow due to his multifaceted skills will definitely be part of the best 15 players England have.

Banton for all his promise has really had only one good season, is only 20, only has batted opener, and lacks top level experience. He's competing with Roy, Buttler, Root?, Malan, Bairstow, and Vince for a top order spot- and probably only 4 of them are being selected out of the 7 names.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Saw captain kane having a coffee in Britomart about an hour ago. Was tempted to say hey but he honestly looked a bit like a deer. Easily spookable.

haha

I saw Buttler at a world cup game twice and ignored him completely. He looked like he would have been scared or pissed if I said hi. I played the long game on him considering the (in my opinion only it seems) motm knock in the final as an England fan I didn't want to bother him. Maybe you are thinking this as an NZ fan? If I'm going to cross paths with a player and they look in the/a certain mental zone (other than an openly social one) I will be sure to not bother them. Williamson doesn't strike me as the social type of player/person. By social I mean just small talk.

Honestly I thought I would be bothering him because he looked lost in thought, and I didn't have anything good to say anyway. Later on I thought asking if he was looking forward to mcg boxing day and how he thinks it might compare to other cricketing spectacles, but obviously too late and too nerdy.

I reckon Kane wouldn't even be thinking about the MCG yet because there are so many other games and an entire series beforehand. Some of the other players are probably keen as mustard but Kane would have his eyes on the ball IMO.

He'd probably give a diplomatic answer to it though. Good question allround if you'd actually thought of it at the time. :p

My own inner dialogue predicted he would probably come back with "well we've got to play England first so focused on that" which I'd come back with "pfft those test easy beats? You'll walk it"

I see Shane Bond (who is our bowling coach at the moment apparently) is advocating for Ferguson to make his test debut this series. Surely he gets a run because he’s going to be a must in Australia.

We all know how this New Zealand management works though, Matt Henry is still probably ahead in the pecking order....

He’s pretty much barging down the door with a battering ram at this stage. I’d have him over Southee, he showed vs Wellington he’s excellent with the new ball.

Open to rotation if Boult or Wagner aren’t performing, though.
