So Southee and Boult have lost their bowling skill then? C'mon man

FTR I could cop replacing Southee with Ferguson in Australian conditions as I agree Southee hasn't tended to be at his best there.

However, if Southee got picked it would hardly be a baffling selection, and it's also a massive call to just assume that Ferguson can do a better 3rd seamer job than Wagner based on zero evidence.
This line of posting is only regarding the Austrlaia tour. Remember last time how ineffective Southee was? And Boult, except for one innings in the day/night test, when the ball was moving? Doug Bracewell was overall our best bowler that tour ffs.

Also, would never replace Wagner with Ferguson in a month of Sundays. Wagner's basically first pick seamer for me. He can bowl 135 with a plan and take wickets, continuous levels of intensity.

Southee and Boult have great skills but away from home, if things don't explicitly suit their bowling they've got nothing. Mind you, that doesn't guarantee Fergusons success. The only person I have confidence in worldwide is Waggy - even then he didn't go too hot in UAE/subcontinent.

This is honestly getting bonkers, 5 seconds ago we had this super great pace attack with a right arm swing bowler, left arm swing bowler who is a bit quicker, followed by a floaty medium paced right arm nibbler and a one-of-a-kind left arm into-the-wicket bounce bowler.

Now Lockie Ferguson exists and they all suck and all bowl the same. It's wild how cricket hot takes never evolve.
I wants me some pace.

We have the prefect bowling balance to accommodate an out an out speedster (an effective 4th seamer, a holding spinner, a tireless 3rd seamer with an unorthodox bowling plan). Even Santner's inclusion at expense of non-batting Ajaz allows us to lengthen the tail.

We actually have a 150kph bowler who is now getting on to 28 years old, is durable, and still hasn't played a test.

It's driving me irrationally insane, conditions are perfect.

I wants pace.

Our two opening bowlers are operating similarly but with different arms. I want pace.

I want Southee out, as just don't particularly like him, but the annoying bugger responds to starting place pressure.

Well, it's definitely irrational.

Southee and Boult aren't even *that* similar, left hand/right hand and Boult is demonstrably quicker. In fact you've got Boult bowling 142kph after 100+ overs here, which is probably the exact same speed you're likely to see Lockie bowling with the old ball?

Yeah I'm flogging a dead horse but it simply isn't "ideal conditions" to bring in a guy for his debut when it requires dropping an excellent performer who is still performing and also fits into the balance of the side well.

.....and having said all that, and as stupid as this whole conversation is, sure, play Lockie in Australia

Southee bowled pretty well during the last Australia tour iirc. Much better than Boult on the flatter tracks.
I'm shitposting too harshly. The only bowlers who have really done well in Australia in living memory have been quick Saffers who eat glass for fun
