Yeah that no-ball was very close, but was clearly marginally behind when the foot first landed.

pretty sure englands problem today hasn't involved the speed of the bowling doully.

fair enough they've played 6 bowlers today which is very plunket shield 2002 but is mark wood even bowling very well atm? didn't look especially quick or threatening in the odis from memory. it was the spinners and the odi specialists who did the damage.

If I was a bowler I'd contact my shoe manufacturer and get them to make me a pair with flexible 3 inch sole extensions at the back.

Yea exactly. Whilst the bowling has been an issue with a lack of pace as witnessed in Australia and a lack of front line spinner it is the batting that is a bigger issue. With Cook fading then Root and Bairstow are needed big time as senior batsman to rely on for consistency. Quite a few international teams are like this now mind.

this is the exact match situation where Captain Baz would have either scored 20 (10) or put England completely out of the match on day 1 by stumps with a 200 run lead.

Great start to day-night test cricket in NZ anyway. Decent crowd, you can hear the atmosphere through the TV, hasn't rained (yet) and England have provided good entertainment (). Hopefully a sign of things to come and the crowds should be bigger again if they're hosted earlier in summer.

We should play all cricket with a pink ball. Better visibility, swings more, and think of all the innuendo we can have with the phrase 'Pink Ball'

Can't wait for the fans who said KW wasn't part of the fab 4 anymore to put him at 3 again and turn their focus onto Root

Genuinely, though, even though he signed that two-year contract or whatever, is this the kind of disaster we need to get rid of Bayliss at test coach and generally change our approach to test cricket as is long overdue? I'm actually ok with the occasional horror show we have in ODIs since I think it's a price worth paying for how much better we've become in that format, but this is just unacceptable.

Not to take away from the bowling which from the little snippets I've seen was excellent, but I don't think it was a 58-all-out bowling performance (I'd be tempted to say there's almost no such thing) but basically we've taken our somewhat prevalent theme of the past few years of generally not knowing what to do in the face of testing conditions/situations to an embarrassing new low. If nothing else we need to learn from this.

mark wood is seriously benefitting from not playing atm in that commentary box. i know nz have a bit of a unicorn in 135kph wagner being able to bowl nasty bouncers 9 overs on the trot but you don't need to be 150 clicks to be intimidating either (like broad is on his day)

what england need is one of those broad spells where he transforms into ambrose from nowhere. as an nz fan im praying those stay away for two more tests.
