Why play Anderson, Broad and Breson in India.. waste of space really, kick 2 of them out bring in 2 spinners...1 faster is enough in India

He's a batsman basically - and realistically, probably not a Test standard one. It's probably harsh to judge him too much on his bowling because even in the context of this side he's been picked as a batsman first, but he's not up to the bowling role that he's been given IMO and England have a couple of better specialist batsmen available.

He's a decent limited overs bowling option because he bowls that full length that just gets driven for singles and is hard to really get under, but he's bowled that same length here for the mostpart and it's entirely toothless in four+ day cricket, as his FC record will testify to. His second spell has actually been a bit quite a bit better in terms of length but he's not really putting anything on the ball in terms of either side spin or overspin. The more I watch him bowl in Test cricket, the more I'm convinced he's a essentially a batsman only in this format unless he makes some serious changes.
Yeah, his role is as a seventh bat who can turn the arm over as a change-up. He's in the side because he's the best batsman-who-can-look-slightly-more-threatening-than-KP-with-the-ball.

Except he isn't; Joe Root is.

India's day at 323/4. The pitch looks immense for spin and India would've certainly taken that.

Swann is the player of the day with 4/85, IMO.

It's easy to forget how easy on the eye Yuvraj can be when he's batting well in Tests due to how awful he looks when he's being exposed (and tbf, how often that happens). I'm not really a big fan of left handed batting from aesthetic point of view and Yuvraj isn't even what you'd call a good Test batsman but he's a bit of a guilty pleasure for me on these wickets. Makes me dislike him even more though in a self-loathing kind of way.

True, I don't even understand what this prince guy is saying half the time
Perhaps if I made more South African choking jokes, trolled the English fans at every opportunity or accused the entire community of being keyboard warriors whenever I held a contrary opinion, that'd be more to your taste?

I really feel that Onions has been hard done by. I mean, he averaged about 15 with the ball last season and he can't get a game ahead of an obviously out-of-form Bresnan? Not like they would miss his batting either.

I'm starting to worrying it might be time to stick a fork in Bres as a serious test bowler. Since he came back from the protracted elbow issue(s) he's really, really lost pace.

Winter of 10/11 he was up around and above 85mph but now he appears to be struggling to get to 80mph even. Prior up to the sticks was the final proof how much he's regressed.

As nice as the extra batting is, not when it's at the expense of more penetrative bowling, ta. I imagine Broad and Swann compare pretty favourably with any 8s & 9s we've ever had anyway.

To be fair to Bresnan he did completely outbowl Onions in the warmup matches and he's only playing because of Finn's injury anyway.
