***Official*** England in India

India :

among the batsmen , gambhir, sehwag, sachin need some serious introspection .....

I'd prefer if rahane came in place of gambhir, but if he stays, gambhir needs to stop dabbing at balls outside the off-stump and get some big scores ...

sehwag needs to improve his concentration by quite a bit ...

as far as sachin goes, he needs to go out there and bat freely, counter-attack , like his innings @ mumbai vs Aus in 2004 or his 93 vs SA in an ODI in 2007 ( that IMO was the innings that turned it around after his slump in that period ) ...

there is no point in him playing in the Indian domestic season ...even in bad form, he'll cart those bowlers around ... a short stint in England/Australia could help though ...

pujara has been batting well ..... kohli and dhoni showed grit in the final test ...

as far as the bowling goes,

ashwin needs to focus on his stock ball, the off-spinner and on improving his accuracy ....his batting has been more than handy, but his bowling is the reason he's been selected and he needs a lot of improvement there ...

ojha has been pretty decent with the ball

need praveen kumar back in the side and umesh to be fitter. These two should form a good bowling pair ....

or if zaheer could improve his fitness ...... if only ... he didn't bowl as badly in the series as his figures suggest ...

still not sure why chawla was selected ...... ditto for harbhajan ....

finally dhoni needs to go as a captain , he can stay as batsman-keeper .... his keeping has slipped a bit ... needs to improve ...

make kohli as the captain for tests ...

England

Cook has been in brilliant form, leading from the front .... compton looks to be a decent opener .... trott has regained his form in the last 2 tests ....

KP was pretty good in the series, his knock in the 2nd test was the knock that probably had the most impact on the series ....

still not convinced about bell in the SC against the spinners ...

prior has improved his keeping quite a bit and is easily the best batsman amongst the keepers ATM ...

as far as the bowling goes

anderson was excellent ....

swann and panesar were pretty good as well ...... though they were helped quite a bit by the poor form of the India batsmen ...they both should play in the SC ... would select swann only outside of the SC though, unless the pitch offers some real help for the spinners ( maybe a venue like Sydney )

broad , if fit , is still the 2nd best seamer by a fair distance ...

bresnan was unimpressive .......but he should be a good option whenever the pitches offer some help for the seamers ...

finn, though a bit raw, can be very good when in form ....

where is tremlett these days btw ?

I hope Rahane and Awana gun it in the ODI's/T20's

Also I personally feel Sachin should play the ODI's (against England and Pak). Champions trophy is mid next year and I'm sure he'd want to play that, so he should get back into the ODI mode. And secondly I feel that Sachin's lack of limited overs cricket has, somewhat contributed to his failures in test matches, I know Laxman and Dravid have previously mentioned how not playing cricket all the time has made it harder for them to perform during tests, and I think not playing is harming Sachin more than benefiting him rest wise, even at his age.

Looks like Jos Buttler getting the gloves today. Long term I would love this solution for ODI and T20 because someone like Buttler is going to have a high variance, volatile batting style and he needs something to fall back upon when he doesn't bat/ fail for a few games which will inevitably happen due to his style of batting and his batting position. He could do with some more wicketkeeping practice but that isn't going to happen too soon unless him or kieswetter leaves Somerset.

Do India really need a massive dinasaur in the field to go with the rest of them (Ashwin, Gambhir, Sehwag, unamned fast bowler who inevitably can't field)? It might get Sachin back in form but at what consequence to the ODI team as a whole?

Think Buttler will be a better short format batsmen than Bairstow in the long run, so also happy with the move.

Quite excited for today. Would be very enjoyable for a side with only one IPL player, someone who didn't play a game last season, to beat India.

So Buttler keeps, I noticed he did it a few times in the Performance thingy over CK.

Just how many 'keepers have we had in the short-form over the last few years?

batting looks light too with Buttler at 6 and Bresnan at 7. Top order players aren't exactly reliable. I'd have played one more batsman and let Patel, Wright or whoever be 5th bowler. Terrible selection imo.

Jadeja, Awana and Dinda are such ******** selections. If the former two fail miserably in these and the ODIs I doubt we'll see them in the next test series.
