Can't really be worse than the others bowlers (barring Ojha) at this stage tbh.

Probably because Awana and Dinda haven't been training with the squad yet, and have been allowed to complete their Ranji games, while the pitch is looking dry, which suggests 3 spinners + Rahane at 6.
I don't agree with that, you can still get 3 spinners with Jadeja at 6, Dhoni at 7 and Ashwin at 8, I'm almost certain our batting will fire in this test match, we need a bit more flexibility in our bowling. The English bats have gotten use to how Ojha and Ashwin bowl, someone like a Jadeja can provide a bit of freshness.

Oh and Chawla is trash.

Was excited about trying out Jadeja as an allrounder, would be a step back IMO if they play Chwala again. Seriously how does that guy get a place in the team after averaging greater than 40 in the last few seasons in Ranji.

Leg spinner and playing on the fact that traditionally England are crap against wrist spin is only reason I can see to be honest.

What happened to the chap who was India's best bowler on the last England tour - Praveen Kumar?

Don't think England are crap against poor wrist spin. His selection for the T20 WC was totally random and this selection is also more of the same. He should only be selected once he starts getting his leg spinners to turn, stops being a one trick pony and actually has some results under his belt.

Any way one of Jadeja or Rahane will be making his debut tomorrow and I really hope whoever gets in makes good of it. Tired of seeing proven non-performers coming back every other series.

Might as well play Jadeja in the bowling slots, if we are going to play Chawla.

Will get extra batting on top of being a equal at least, if not better bowler.

Chawla has been selected for being a leggie. Nothing else really.

Rohit Sharma should've been in the team two years ago. Anyone who has seen him bat can see he's a class act. If they brought him in back then and he failed he could've been dropped and re-introduced as a player who has learned his game.
Completely agree. People go on endlessly about what an awesome talent Yuvraj is. He cant hold a candle to Rohit's talent. That he hasn't fulfilled it is a massive tragedy for Indian cricket but there is no reason for him to spend long periods in wilderness. Anyone can see he is a very very special talent and he needs nurturing. IPL and the riches that came with it hit many t=youngsters one of the worst affected as Rohit but since everyone in the Indian cricket establishment was talking about that, they should have realised the youngster was vulnerable but too precious to be mishandled.

We just do not know how to handle our really gifted youngsters. They can be lifted to demi God status or thrown away in the bin both with full 'justification' and without taking any responsibility for the mess. . .

If Chawla plays, it has to be match fixing. :p

He's averaging like 50 in domestic cricket....
You said it !

I have been breaking my head trying to find out what might be the reason for this guy getting selected again and again and have not even been able to manage a really wild one . . .

So for England it may boil down to Bresnan v Onions, imo, with Bresnan just ahead. If both were fit and in form it's a difficult decision, but this decision may be clouded by the fact that Onions hasn't played too much while on this tour so far and Bresnan looked well below his best in his only Test so far.

When fully fit Bresnan will bowl all day, bowl a heavy ball, and gain reverse swing to make him equally dangerous with the older ball. He will be constantly at the batsman, as Onions generally will be. Onions will bowl a tight off stump line looking just for a hint of seam to trouble the batsman, at decent pace. It's certainly a very decent position to be in with bowlers such as Steve Finn and Stuart Broad likely to be ruled out.

Consistency would see Bresnan selected, it wasn't long ago he was England's lucky charm, but since his elbow problems he has lost that bit of nip meaning he has lost some of his threat and effectiveness. His batting is a bonus, but this comes down to who will be the most effective bowler on the Nagpur deck. With reverse swing being well executed by messrs Anderson and Finn in Kolkata, Bresnan is the more likely of the two to find a similar threat in Nagpur.

For me it comes down to if Bresnan has regained his nip, and there is only net sessions to ascertain if he has, England are in an excellent and fortunate position if he hasn't to call on a bowler of similar quality in Onions.

Would actually go with Onions I don't think the lack of bowling in matches will be an issue, the guy has been bowling plenty of overs in the nets we presume similar size of bowler to Anderson but I reckon his tight line will give him a few chances of causing one or two chop ons and he'll probably have a better economy rate than this current version of Bresnan.

That's the key for me, the Bresnan of now is a very different bowler to the one that we have become used to over the last 18 months or so. I'm sure Onions will have had plenty of nets and I'm pretty sure he's a naturally fit guy that would have little problem doing his share of hard work, but there will still be some rust there for him, nets aren't like the real thing.

You have no idea whether Dhoni approached Gambhir and said "hey buddy, you played a good knock and all but please don't undermine me publicly when I won the team the match in the last over? Especially since I'm your captain. Cheers bro"
That is not a disciplinary action.

Can someone explain to me why Pyush Chawla is being touted as the front runner for the final test?
There is no one else. I blame the Bhogles and Manrekars and Sidhus and the 50 Cricinfo writers who hyped up these Indian spinners as the next Bedi and Prasanna.

It'd be a disgrace if Bresnan got in over Onions yet again; the latter should have got the nod pre-tour based, if nothing else, on Bresnan's obvious loss of pace after his injury.
I am a huge Onions fan too but according to Cricinfo he has lost his rhythm.
