the biggest problem with the indian side is that so many of the players have lacked the committment and energy both on and off the field (training) and have come across as mentally fragile when even slightly behind the game.

unless they somehow show an improvement there, i can;t see this team doing too well anywhere.

do they have a psychologist?

Right decision to dump Zaheer. Even if he is still their best swing bowler, he's too old and unfit. You just can't rely on him, particularly in a five day test where long hours are spent in the field. They are better off with a younger more enthusiastic bowler.

It's funny..I read Jadeja's recent exploits and he's sitting there in august company indeed, but then I remember what I saw of him as a player and something doesn't add up. I suppose you have to reward consistent performances, but I wonder if he's going to be up to scratch. Can't hurt any more anyway.

How did Awana get ahead of Pankaj Singh?

In the first match both Zaheer and Yadav got reverse while the English bowlers didn't find any and were ineffective. It's weird that now that they've got it reversing in this match, Zaheer couldn't get it to do the same. What could be the reason?

Jadeja has always been a fantastic player - was a key member of the U-19 team, and then Warne amongst others rated him very highly. But he was never going to be able to show that if you stuck him in at number 7 at ODIs. He isn't meant as a lower-order hitter.

And then he got banned from the IPL, played no cricket for ages, and was suddenly called into the India T20 and ODI sides. Had no form, no practice, no confidence, he bowling just became cannon fodder. And to compensate, he went from being is usual slow, canny, varying flight and pace and spinning it a little sort of spinner to one who just bowled flat darts and was still pretty rubbish.

He's back into good form and rhythm now, playing his natural game, and he should be fine. His bowling and batting both, individually, are not Test-standard - he doesn't get picked on merit as a spinner alone (maybe for ODIs he could), or as a Top-6 batsman. But combined they make a useful package. Plus he's a very good fielder.

Ishant doesn't swing the ball normally anyways, and either Indian weren't maintaining the ball well or Zaheer just wasn't trying hard enough.

uncommitted indian players not working hard enough on the ball to keep one side shiny...?

So if Jadeja plays we know the Nagpur pitch is a real bunsen burner as that will be 3 spinners in the side, no pressure on him with the bat though apart from a whole nation expecting him to star as the top 5 apart from Pujara haven't done enough. If he does play I hope if he doesn't do much he isn't dumped straight away and gets the Aussie series too to cement his place in the side.

Could end up with a strange team though packed with batting yet.

if it is a 3 to 4 day pitch, won't be a bad side to go in with
