Absolutely agree with your final point, if only because India adapt far better to English conditions than vice versa, so the cricket's usually compelling.
We all know that the 4-1 scoreline in 2018 was a bit misleading because the 1st and 4th tests could have gone either way.

As for your first point, I'd love to think that England will use their resources to come back strongly in India one day, but the powers that be have made sure that won't happen in the foreseeeable future by making a pig's arse out of the domestic season.

i don't think it's a question of whether England v India should be 5 tests, but why other series shouldn't be at least 3 or 4 test series minimum. 2 test series should be abolished. imagine england sharing the trophy with india at 5 tests and feeling like they done a job.

Knight's done well to maintain some semblance of dignity and pride amid the embarrassing nonstop cheerleading from the Indian contingent (Shastri's mellowed out though and is somewhat balanced). Speaking of, it's beyond belief how Manjrekar's held down the commentary gig for 20+ years now. Forget the shilling and unpleasantness he's prone to, the guy is just incredibly harsh on the ears (not that the baniyas in charge of the BCCI could tell). You'd expect a professional pulling lakhs to do the bare minimum in his off-time to maintain/upgrade his skills, but it seems like a cozy tenured posting once you find your way in.

For all the hand-wringing, the thing is that this is India's strongest team.

Until 2010, India had 4 bowlers with 100+ wickets with averages under 30 - Kapil, Kumble, Chandrashekhar, Bedi and they were all at 28-29.

Since 2010 there have been four - Shami, Bumrah, Ashwin, Jadeja with the last 3 averaging below 25 and Shami averaging 27.

You also have Axar, Kuldeep, Siraj who are below 30 and should get to 100 wickets in a few years.

Umesh Yadav has a better average than the likes of Zaheer, Ishant etc but no one gives an f about him. That's how much India's bowling stocks have increased.
