It's funny what form can do to the perception of a batsman from the outside. Today when Rahane came on I was sure another wicket was going to fall, the feeling you have when the tailenders come on but contrast to that when Ashwin or even Stokes is on you don't get the feeling that they are going to get out. They are just there. One end is secure.

With Hameed struggling and no idea about Broad we are stuffed unless we call some players up.

Yeah, why haven't we done this already? Given that we're on to our last batsman, I'd have thought we'd want anyone who might be coming in later in the series to get acclimatised as soon as possible. I guess there's not any batsmen in the firing line right at the moment, but still.

I honestly didn't think England would get another opportunity like this but Rashid has gotten into them and if England can get quick wickets, their batsman have every chance to post a good to very good score.

remember, it's only day 2

It's still a decent pitch to bat on if you can get yourself established at the crease. A couple of shots Ashwin played towards the end showed the confidence he had in the pitch, driving on the up through covers or down the ground. England need to eradicate the loose shots from the first innings and knuckle down and set India a very testing total, but they need to bowl them out first without too much fuss and ensure the deficit isn't too hurtful.
