No argument at all about England being guilty of this sort of thing at times, especially Stokes of course..And Anderson at other times, as you rightly point out.
Not sure whether Stokes not denying the charge proves anything though.

And send-offs are one of my major bug-bears with modern cricket, whichever team is doing it. I have long argued giving the victim a free hit in the general direction of the guilty party might go some way to eradicating them.

Well, I dont think sledging itself has any real part in the game because too many things get into it.. But yeah, send offs will always be a thing coz you will see it is mostly given to people who are being chatty on the field when they are fielding. I mean, Steve Smith had a go at Hardik Pandya in his debut over in T20s and I felt it was totally what he deserved when Kohli gave him a mouthful when he gave him a catch. So its hard to crack down on unless you crack down on sledging as a whole.

And I think Stokes accepting the verdict shows he at least has understood that he perhaps over-reacted. If Kohli did actually abuse him with unacceptable words, I am sure he would have mentioned that as the mitigating circumstance for whatever words he himself used. That was just a **** tabloid and a **** report of "oh, how we are always victims" attitude.

90 seconds for instigating. Ice Hockey's model seems fair.

Kohli's got a punchable face.. And cant wait to see Root punched out again. :p

But seriously, even the charge itself does not seem to be about the send-off and response fiasco. They are merely talking vocabulistics.. :p Apparently Stokes said a bad word.

Needs Cap in his ear more often, methinks..

Nah, The Guardian's anything but a tabloid. I remember following their cricket coverage and over-by-over updates extensively during the 2006-07 Ashes, 2007 WC etc. Used to have quality articles by Mike Selvey, Rob Smyth etc. and even the comments section was quite insightful. Haven't visited the site in a long time though.

Even cricinfo was really good in that time frame though. Think media and reporting as a whole has gone to **** since then, across the world.

It would be funny though, if England play both Butler and Bairstow in all formats of the game but Butler keeps in the LO stuff while Bairstow keeps in the Tests. Does not mean they should not try it though.

As good as Bairstow is I wonder how they can actually fit him in the ODI side if Morgan returns. Roy, Hales and Root are the top 3 and Buttler has to play and bat in the top 5. Stokes is 6 so unless they drop Morgan and play Bairstow at 4 or 5 there isn't a place for him as he would be wasted at 7 or lower.

Caught the toss but wasn't able to follow the game live, heard a brief mention that is was a solid toss to win. Were England utter shite or did the 'experts' get their evaluation of the pitch horribly wrong again? What's the general thought to how the pitch will change, England in a decent position? Cheers

Poor batting for the most part, I'm afraid, though I don't know if the pitch also played differently to expectations. England not in a good position and not much scope for improvement tomorrow with only Batty & Anderson left to support Rashid.

It is more of a 350 par pitch but England, having won the toss and being a good batting line up, should be disappointed at not making it too 400 or 450, if they don't, that is.. :p

Haha, I know our lower order has been bailing us out a lot recently, but I don't think you need to worry about Rashid/Batty/Jimmy adding another 150+ between them. Although if they all reached their respective top scores...

Missed the day's play. On a scale of Parthiv to 10, how bad was Parthiv? Also, did the Indian comms keep making excuses for him when he ****ed up and praise him profusely for doing the most basic ****?

honestbharani

Whatever it takes!!!
Affirmative to your comms question and I would say he was at a Parthiv + 1 level today as far as the scale goes. Improved, but only barely. The stumping was quick and the Cook catch was a good one but the other keeping issues still remain, including being so unconfident in his abilities as a keeper that he stands far too far from the stumps, taking the slips back with him.

He's the original Rohit Sharma when it comes to unwarranted praise and excuses from commentators. They all seem to treat him like their long lost 10 year old child.

Edit - I still remember Ajay Ratra, who was just 20 at the time, getting killed in the media for much less before Parthiv replaced him. Probably the only case in history where someone got a raw deal for not being fat enough.

I feel like India are intentionally picking at least one player per test match that I absolutely hate. Ishant injured? No problem, let's bring back Rohit and change the entire balance of the team for no good reason. Rohit and Ishant injured? No problem, we have Gambhir now. No place for Gambhir? That's okay, let's just go back to Parthiv Patel.

Expecting Dinesh Mongia to make a comeback for the next test.

Jimmy and Root put on close to 200 for the 10th wicket against us in 2014. :p
