These two hanging in htere like this, puts England' first innings in perspective. India taking 5 for 100 on the end of day 2, is where they have won this test (still assuming they will win it). To put it a bit negatively, it is where England messed things up. One can imagine that things could have looked different if Root hadn't taken the wickets of HH and himself .

Out of 11 sessions we have played badly in maybe two of them. At least they've shown something which with 3 tests to play sounds fairly encouraging.

People have mentioned conditions and the toss but before today it has been most like the Lords test v Australia last year, except there we completely flopped after conceding a similar lead
