If we picked the XI for the last Test, Im sure a 2nd XI could be picked that would have a good chance of taking a 5 match series agains them.
Think you are strethching it a bit there , on the pace bowling front there probably would not be much of a difference (could just have Durham) but a second string batting lineup and the quality drops of quite badly and there is no one close to Swann.

If if they are giving people as go then I wouldnt mind a chance. The captaincy isnt something to be used like a perfume sample. Strauss is England captain and if the position is to keep prestige then it must be treated with respect. Not passed around on whims.

Strauss must tour. KP I can go either way with. Bell shouldnt, as shouldnt Collingwood. Cook should and Trott should. Anderson rested. I could be pursuaded on a keeper.
Well yeah but it's not like it would be completely random, what with Cook being the official vice-captain

I think that's pretty much a given, especially with his batting ability allowing a 5 batsman - Prior - 3 seamers and 2 spinners line up.

What a surprise, Mark Davies magically vanishes from the Test squad.

Selectors are a ****ing clueless disgrace.

So will Rashid be the second spinner?

Or not.

Test squad: Alastair Cook (Essex, captain), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Michael Carberry (Hampshire), Paul Collingwood (Durham), Steven Davies (Surrey), Graham Onions (Durham), Kevin Pietersen (Hampshire), Liam Plunkett (Durham), Matt Prior (Sussex, wk), Ajmal Shahzad (Yorkshire), Ryan Sidebottom (Nottinghamshire), Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire), James Tredwell (Kent), Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire), Luke Wright (Sussex)

What's Shahzad done to deserve a spot? He's never taken a 5-for or made a century in first class cricket.

I've not seen him obviously, but surely there would be quite a few who deserve a place in front of him..

LOL @ Shahzad.

New Mahmood much?

What's Tredwell done to get a call-up over Rashid? And worse, why don't England pick Mark Davies!

So we've been saying that Colly could probably do with a rest and the selectors are goingto play him as the 3rd seamer? His cutters will be useful.

Actually scrap that, Swanneh to bowl first change and take 21 wickets in every Test.

Didn't realise they'd not picked Rashid either in favour of a plodder with a rubbish record who's nearly 28.

How did these complete ****ing clowns get any responsibility bigger responsibility than putting their trousers on in the morning? These selections are an absolute joke. It's not just one or two mysterious calls, it's consistently epic ****witted picks one series after another.

Still continuing with the epic fail of playing Prior in ODIs i see. One step forward two steps back.

5 steps back and none forward in this case.

It just beggars belief doesn't it. It's like every day is April Fools.

They spend all these series grooming Rashid, giving him experience, they pick him in a shortened format so he learns to bowl flat rubbish and potentially ruining him as a Test player, then the golden opportunity arises to play him in Test cricket AND THEY PICK A 28YO PLODDER WITH A **** RECORD.

They have the perfect opportunity to have a look at some short to medium term seam options with his arch ordinariness being rested - the seam bowling was clearly not a strong area in England's side but there are other options knocking around who might improve the situation. So the one guy who has completely dominated FC cricket and on England A type tours is magically left out in favour of some random Yorkshire player who's shown nothing exceptional whatsoever.

Plunkett a completely horrible limited overs bowler with a completely horrible record last season in particular is again in the ODI squad.

Prior a proven completely horrible ODI player, who does nothing for England's balance, is in the ODI squad with no other keeper in there. There a wealth of other options who would do a lot for England's balance.

Denly a player who is obviously more suited to longer format cricket is in the ODI squad and not in the Test squad.

Sidebottom someone who has not looked the same bowler since 18 months ago, is 32, needs to show he has that edge back before he's worth considering again. He is in *both* squads in a very low priority tour.

Not impressed with Strauss being rested for both tours. If he was going to play the T20 world cup (and perhaps IPL too) I could understand it. As it is, he's now got a ridiculously long break.

Well he wasn't actually in the squad per se, only in as cover.

Seems odd that he's dropped from injury cover to not being in the squad, but then again I'm not sure if Shahzad was in SA was he?

Haha, pretty funny squad that. Can see Bangladesh getting up for sure.
We're only two players short of full strength tbh. AM sure we'll have our bumpy moments but I've no doubt that, weather permitting, we will win two-nil.

Of course you know me, always put my money where my mouth is so I'm happy to put my avatar on the line if anyone wants to challenge me.

Brave man. Sticking your neck out a bit with that one, aren't you?
