Hmm, should have reviewed it. Hitting middle of leg according to Hawkeye, I think it would have been overturned, commentators disagree though.

England were 1 wicket down and going great guns when i started watching, suddenly 3 wickets down and now when i switched the tv off..Morgan and trott playing steadily

England batsmen attempting suicide at the moment. Nothing shot from Pietersen and Bell.
Think you have to give him credit for Bell as he did him in the flight, but Prior and KP just chipped up a long hop & full toss, respectively.

Amazing how this England line up looks short of batting and bowling. If Colly's first couple of overs go for 20 it'll be interesting to see what we do.

We clearly have a lot of faith in Tredwell. Sigh.

Yeah Tredwell being in the world squad looks increasingly ridiculous.

Whatever reservations you may have about his scoring rate Trott has pretty much secured his spot for the World cup, imagine it will be between Bell and Collingwood for the last spot, unless this Collingwood as the 5th bowler thing goes well. Either way Yardy or Collingwood at 7 and playing the 5th bowler role worries me a great deal.

Yes tbh, Bell wicket was a good ball from Smith.

Fair effort by the spinners to drag this back. The combination of Smith and Doherty worked a treat today. Never underestimate the value of a leg-spinner to extract wickets.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with having one batsman who can put the anchor down and let the others play shots around him. Striking at 80 isn't horrible for a #3 either.

As you say, Yardy is a worry. His ODI figures make ugly viewing, tbh. Not surprising given he's a county batting all-rounder (to be generous) who's somehow managed to mutate into a specialist seamer spinner in the international game.

England have picked a batsman-spinner in ODIs for as long as I've been following the game seriously. To qualify for the spot, you must:

  • Be a decent to good four-day middle order batsman in county cricket, compiling an average of 35-40
  • Rarely if ever bowl in four-day cricket
  • Fail to translate you four-day domestic batting success to one day domestic cricket
  • Bowl some part-time darts in domestic one day cricket and compile a poor to average record doing so

Get that sorted and you're in line to bat seven or eight in England's ODI side and bowl close to your full complement of overs. Blackwell, Dalrymple and Patel are Yardy's predecessors.

Ton for Trotters. Fair play. Controlled and disciplined innings which he's now just starting to accelerate. Encouraging he speeds up when in sight of a personal milestone too.

Not Hastings's sort of pitch this; anything back of a length just sits up and begs to be put away.

His career is a rather extraordinary one, has shown what is possible with rise of twenty20 and so forth. You have to have some respect for what he has achieved but yeah I can still never be a success in ODI's on a long term basis. Have seen him play some pretty decent innings for Sussex against Hampshire (one in the final of the friends provident) but it is fairly obvious he does not have what is required to bat at 7. (I also cannot help but cringe whenever I see him bowl)

Anyway well played Trott, he really does pump those runs out.

Think it is a cunning ploy to make Australia bowl Hussey and Smith in the world cup to, that or bad bowling is the new crafty inovation in one day cricket.
