*Official* England in Australia (2 T20 & 7 ODIs)

That's what we need - anybody who can bowl six consistent balls in an over. I can not believe how much for example we fed Cook's cut shot during the Ashes. Repeatedly dropping short and releasing the pressure on him. I can confirm that he plays that shot well.

Reports on Copeland at FC level are that he bowls about one bad ball a week.

How handy might that have been this summer?
Forget about the reports mate, people like Ponting and Sutherland have come out today and openly bagged their own domestic structure, so I guess that kinda shows where exactly the standard of Aussie domestic cricket is at, at present.
There is a huge difference between domestic and international cricket right now, the state and national administration is to be largely blamed for that.
They have pretty much given the domestic cricketers in Australia an absolutely opposite environment to the one we have in the international arena to develop their skills. So now when an Australian player comes into the international team, he finds things at the international circuit to be pretty different from what he is used too.

Yeah, because all those guys we've picked recently who have been performing in the Shield have been struggling...

Oh wait, there are none.

England have been done a bit on the D/L, there required run rate has gone up from 5.8 to 6.3. Seem to have taken 8 overs off, but only 34 runs off the total, I think off the top off my head.

My assessment regarding Copeland or any bowlers similar to him isn't based on this game alone, I genuinely feel that a medium pacer is very unlikely to have any impact in modern day test cricket.
A bloke like Copeland might have owned international batting line-ups if the pitches were similar to what they were like 10-15 years ago.
Zaheer Khan and Asif?

Copeland was actually bowling ridiculously slow though, around 120 most of the time, does he usually bowl at that speed?

I've seen him bowl live two times on tracks I'd call flat. On one of them he took a bag, on the other his economy was under 2.

His line and length is fantastic. He builds up so much pressure.
That's fair enough mate, that's your view and I respect that, I'm someone who rates Hilfy but you and majority of people think he is trash, but the funny thing is he too has come through the ranks by taking a lot of wickets, half of which came on a (then) back-breaking Bellarive oval pitch.
McKay for example was bagging a lot of FC wickets, so the selectors pushed him into the Perth test last year and he generally looked pedestrian through the game.
So to cut the long story short, as I said a gulf has been created between the standard of Oz domestic and international cricket, due to a lot of stupid things that have been done by CA over the last few years, and the sooner we rectify these problems the better it would be for us.

Reckon most good bowlers in recent years were slow-ish, most of the quicker ones (except Steyn) were either too unfit or too rubbish to be good bowlers.

Is Trott much good at ODI cricket?
Divides opinion. A very good average (48.3), generally very solid, but struggles to up the scoring. I'd say it's worth keeping him to negotiate the middle overs and knock the singles around, build partnerships get the opposition searching for wickets. Don't really want him there at the end though.

This is terrible umpiring, they have the screens at the ground showing the replays, both of them were obviously not no balls! Poetic justice that the free hits didn't go for much...

I think England need a player like Trott, especially with the attacking players they've got and players can play around him.

Glenn McGrath?

Later on anyway.
McGrath, Zaheer both have the ability to reverse the older ball which is always a life saver on dead tracks. Also goes without saying that McGrath is arguably one the most skillful fast bowlers of all time, and as he got old he added a lot more dimensions to his bowling. Zaheer too is pretty good within his own rights, and with are has developed his own bag of tricks.

Copeland's been a touch unlucky, now Hilditch and 90% of Australia are going to look at him and be all like "hurr he's ****" based on a match in a format he's not good at. 8-)

Tbh he bowled a fair bit of **** in his first two overs, but he has looked quite good since. As you said though, pretty stupid to judge him on a format he has never actually shown any signs of being good in.

Yeah true, his first two overs were really ordinary and he's bowled the occasional **** ball since, but he's been swinging it a fair bit...he swings the red ball prodigiously though.

Gee another close one! I reckon Ferguson did well to get near it though.
