Did it?

The Selection Panel never confirmed that XI, so...
Yes it did. The Panel never confirmed the original XI. Therein lay my copy/paste mistake. I have the messages to prove it.

Headline - CW XI humiliated by Pakistan

[Faisalabad] World Cup finalist, the Cricket Web XI were crushed by hosts Pakistan in the first of three Tests at Faisalabad. A record low of 121 constituted the first innings as Shoaib had the batsmen hopping in the crease. The bowling was far more purposeful and able, but Youhana and Razzaq kept Pakistan in full control.

It was really not much of a contest from then on, especially when early wickets tumbled again and, despite the best efforts of the middle order, the ultimate result read to be a 10-wicket defeat.

1st Test: CW XI vs Pakistan at Faisalabad

Cricket Web XI 121 & 268
Pakistan 312 & 78/0

Pakistan won by 10 wickets

Man of the match: Shoaib Akhtar

How OUT:
1st
Broncoman - edging a peach of an outswinger.
Peter Young - knocked back by an inswinger.
Rich_2001 - unlucky. Hit outside the line of offstump.
Cloete - edging a cut to 2nd slip.
Eclipse - playing around a full delivery from around the wicket.
Blewy - yorked.
Jason Toogood - gloving a bouncer to 2nd slip.
Mr Ponting - driving and edging to first slip.
David Jr - regulation edge and caught at 2nd slip.
Mr Wright - not out.
Neil Pickup - missed an attempted sweep and bowled around his legs.

2nd

Peter Young - mirror of Rich's first innings bad luck.
Rich_2001 - pulling straight into midwicket's hands.
Cloete - inside edge onto pad and given out.

Headline - CW XI stay alive in series

[Rawalpindi] The CW XI bounced back somewhat to fight to a draw against Pakistan in the 2nd Test. Still, the effort was not truly convincing, as the Cricket Webheads were in total control heading into the second innings, but the lack of penetration in their seam attack was made to show.

Jason Toogood looked uncomfortable, especially against Shoaib Akhtar and Danish Kaneria, but fought manfully and played a couple of crucial knocks in the cause. Also of note was the effort of Neil Pickup, once again carrying the CW XI bowling with a determined effort.

CW XI vs Pakistan - 2nd Test at Rawalpindi

Pakistan 285 & 494/4d
Cricket Web XI 414 & 283/7

Cricket Web XI draw with Pakistan

Man of the match: Umur Gul

How OUT:

1st innings
Broncoman - top-edged cut shot.
Peter Young - pushing at a genuine legbreak.
Rich_2001 - trapped on the crease.
Cloete - flashing at a wide ball.
Eclipse - flicking down the legside.
Blewy - driving and caught at 1st slip.
Jason Toogood - not out.
Mr Ponting - played over a full one.
David Jr - not playing a shot.
Mr Wright - top-edged hook.
Neil Pickup - not playing a shot.

2nd innings
Broncoman - edged a lovely away swinger off the backfoot.
Peter Young - bowled around his legs.
Rich_2001 - top-edged hook and caught at long on.
Cloete - went for the pull and the ball didn't bounce.
Eclipse - ball hit helmet, arm guard, pad, then rolled onto the stumps.
Blewy - yorked comprehensively.
Jason Toogood - not out.
Mr Ponting - flashing loosely outside offstump.
David Jr - not out.

Coach's Comments:
Much more fight shown by the batsmen this time around, but the bowling was the problem. We really are lacking the penetration in the seam department and will have to resolve this immediately if we are to compete... even against Bangladesh. The bowlers have to step up and show that they can operate on pitches which are less friendly than those in New Zealand, as the Ginger menace can't do it all on his own. Well done by Neil btw, outstanding bowling yet again and crucially his first real quality figures in a fair while at Test level.

Big notice especially of Toogood, Rich_2001 and Eclipse. Eclipse seems to finally have found some form, with a 3rd consecutive trip past 50. Rich was especially impressive, in that he bounced back from a pair to register a couple of half centuries to the cause. Whilst Toogood still struggled to get the ball away (and was dropped twice in the first innings - on 22 and 31), he stuck in there and kept his nerve for a couple of very important innings.

Oh... so no mention for my valiant batting display? :(

1/23, 90, 0/56 and 45

Batsmen really stood up this game, however one of Eclipse, RIch or I should have converted our 80'/90 to 120+. That's been my problem all of my career.. making a start then getting out for 15-30. However I think today I atleast converted one to just short of a 50 and the other 10 short of a ton.

Great performance by Neil and all the bats. Not sad playing second string to Neil when he bowls like that!

im happy to spend some time in the middle, although not scoring massively i did the job of taking the shine off the new ball and set up the innings for the middle order.
Good job by the team to draw the match, who knows, we may even win the next one!
