England have spent several months brooding over selections after recent injury problems, but Andrew Flintoff ended all matters by barging into the ECB headquarters ranting that he was match fit. As such, he has been named captain.

One new face in Cricket Web XI squad

Uncapped Andy Cameron has been included in the 15-man party to contest the Cricket World Cup. Cameron has played for Cricket Web 'A' and Cricket Web Under-19 in recent times, but his selection ahead of more experienced candidates surely comes as a surprise.

Missing out on selection, of those who featured for the XI in recent times, are Xavier Rose, Sean Fuller and Nick Hancock. Co-chairman of the selectors, Liam Camps senior explained the ommissions.

"We're only afforded 15 players, and we have to cater for as many needs as we can within that allowance. Sean Fuller, Nick Hancock and Xavier Rose made contributions in the build-up to the tournament, but we ultimately went with the team we see best suited to handle the various challenges of the tournament," said Camps.

Inexperienced players Dinu DeSilva, Nath Patrick and Rob Dauth have been granted an opportunity to feature on the grand stage, but it is the veteran component of the squad that will be heavier upon to bring success.

Brendan Goff enters the tournament as an experienced batsman and captain, and one of the best players in the world. At his disposal are Liam Camps and Neil Pickup, representing a strong partnership of experience and class.

Nathan Hoy is set to lead the seam bowling attack, despite his relative inexperience.

The squad:

BJ Goff (C) [Blue]
NS Pickup (vc) [Black]
AP Chaulk (wk) [Black]
I Markus [Red]
CR Butler [Black]
LA Camps [Blue]
MW DeSilva [Blue]
DP Towns [Colts]
RJ Dauth [Red]
MJ Robbins [Red]
DJ Watt [Red]
NS Hoy [Black]
TC Halsey [Blue]
NL Patrick [Blue]
AA Cameron [Green]

Any updates as to who is and is not available for club selection? We've all been asked to provide sides but I don't think many of us know who we can pick from at the moment, and we're already running out of time, too.

None of the players named in the CW XI squad are available for their club sides for the first batch of warmup games. Another announcement of availability will be made after the initial games.

Well done to all that made the squad especially to the re-call of both Towns and Watt, both well deserved IMO. Also well done to Andy Cameron on making your first national squad, looks like you might be the 3rd Under 19 player to move from Under 19s to the national team. Also Andy plays for the Greens not Reds.

Supremely disappointed that the selectors are going for someone with no international experience especially over others who can do a similar job and have more experience.:( But that's what was wanted so good luck to the CWXI. Let's go that one step further this time.:)

hmm a big surprise that Anderson couldn't get in the England squad ahead of the likes of Mahmood, Chapple and plunkett

Brad Hogg is gutted to be left out of the WC squad, I hear.

Anyway, a bit disappointed to miss out on making the WC squad after a pretty good Season X, but I didn't really take my chances with the bat in the leadup tournament, so I can't complain.

Good luck to all the people selected. We're in with a good chance.

Wow. Am totally shocked. Hope I can justify the selectors' choice in any chance that I get.
