Mental just sums up this game! With a very heavy dew overnight, we would have expected the first session to be repeat carnage from the previous two days, but no. Vince batted on without any difficulty & when Somerset’s 4th innings began, Vijay & Davies batted imperiously reaching 86-0 off 20 overs. How could things be so different? Nothing beat the bat all morning. After lunch Abbott came back & upped the intensity, Vijay was late on a pull & caught at mid wicket, then the Somerset batting fell to pieces! I was hoping to see Abell, Hildreth, Banton, make a real game of it, but they were all gone in 10 mins. I must say that Kyle Abbott produced two very xaccurate & hostile spells in this match, & whilst it was a privilege to watch, it made me wonder about the strength & technique of young English batsmen. They certainly had a wake up call in this match! Somerset have to face Jamie Porter & Simon Harmer next week, I genuinely wish them well. It would be nice to see them win the Championship.

Since Harmer made his debut for Essex he has taken 26 wickets more than any other bowler in County Champ cricket.

How many had leach taken?
I guess the overseas players have the advantage of playing every game with no chance of getting called up on intl duty.
Although I'm pretty sure I remember Patel playing for nz in one series a year or so ago

Definitely. Harmer takes more wickets per game I imagine. Can't be bothered researching it. But Leach is probably the 2nd best spinner after Harmer for wickets per game or at least average. Happy to be proven wrong. Harmer has caused mayhem in the CC for a while. Interesting list. Always thought Chris Rushworth was a top FC bowler, especially in bowler friendly conditions. It surprises me Porter gets so many wickets, but hard to argue with the stats - he has a great ability to take wickets no doubt.

Moeen the magnificent MOTM in the quarters against us, with his batting; MOTM with his bowling in the semi against Notts.

I remember watching this Hudson-Prentice bloke in Adelaide grade cricket, frankly I am surprised he has even made it this far

Haha this is turning like it's mumbai. Lawrence the occasional spinner ragging it square first over. Would think it'll get easier to bat as the lights take affect.

Win or lose it's going to take a while for essex to come down from a draining day like this. Plays into somerset's hands with the county game between the two teams starting monday.

I know they have time constraints trying to fit three games in, but really poor that there's no super over in the event of a tie (same applied for the first semi).
