So oone more year of something like county cricket and then in the year 2020 we have the cluster**** of a schedule with an excess of short format games. it's **** by the ecb and the counties (who tend to get away with no criticism). fuxk the counties are getting their million+ inducement for agreeing to the hundred plus they get to play all their 20 over games from previous years - they should be raking in the cash. https://www.ecb.co.uk/news/894379/counties-agree-to-men-s-domestic-structure-changes-from-2020
Some of the 20/hundred specialists are going to be getting close to 30 games over a season.
The 50 over comp played concurrently with the hundred is going to be bad. It's hard to imagine almost. Say the top 120 players white ball cricketers are playing in the hundred, that leaves the worst of the white ball players to play in the 50 over competition. It's going to be full of second team players and first class specialists. Every player coming through the youth system of a club is going to be focusing on the white ball stuff.
An improvement on the scheduling part imo would have been to have the 4 day games (instead of 50 over) running whilst the hundred was on. Would have allowed opportunities to young spinners to bowl in the middle of summer. We might actually find a batsman who could bat through a day of county cricket if we play outside of April and September. There's already all the incentives needed for second teamers/youth cricketers coming through to work on their limited overs game - the money in t20 leagues across the world is that. It's the 4 day stuff game that needs an incentive right now. Give a chance to the first class specialists and the youngsters in july and august and we might have some better test players coming through.

Still hopeful they'll cancel it once they realize there isnt enough demand for this BS. Purely as a format I fail to see what kind of charm this could provide that a T20 already doesnt. Hopefully you guys wont lose out on too much money
I thought the only good thing (for me) would be more Dutch players getting a chance in the 50 overs tournament because it'll largely be Second XI teams, but then I realized that Brexit

A lot of the next gen of english batsmen are out in Aus playing grade cricket. Harry Brook, Tom Banton, Zac Crawley, James Bracey, Ollie Robinson, Will Jacks. Jacks with a double ton overnight. Plenty of others all over Aus playing grade cricket.

It is, but it's always been resisted in the English domestic system. Seam-friendly tracks where sides don't make 200 are absolutely fine, whereas Somerset, and previously Surrey, have been roundly condemned for producing wickets that encourage the spinners at any point before Day 4. Tresco is only half right by the way. We also need pitches that spin if you want to learn to bowl it too.

Whilst having no idea whatsoever about the quality of attack or state of the wicket where Jacks has done that, he is a talented lad who times the ball very well. I'd think his double hundred would have been an entertaining knock.

He's playing first grade in WA for university so the standard is pretty reasonable I'd guess given there seems to be a fair amount of recognizable names playing for different sides.
It's the time of year when players are starting pre season. From twitter I've gathered that Zak Chappell and Luke Wood came top in the Notts yoyo test, Danny Lamb with Lancashire, and I think Abell came top last week at Somerset. Probably some others i've missed too.

DBD scored some decent runs so far in grade cricket. MyCricket - Daniel Bell-Drummond A couple of big partnerships with Davie Warner over the weekend. Was out of the Kent team at the end of last season, and was out of contract, but has since signed a new contract.

Lots of other guys doing allright.
Garton and Meaker both out in Aus grade cricket getting some overs under their belts.
Bairstow still hasn't signed anything with Yorkshire as far as I can see and he's out of contract.
Some suggestion that Buttler will return to Somerset when his contract at Lancs runs out next year.

Saqib Mahmood very good in the T20 games. Pope did pretty well in the ODIs.
Gubbins poor tour.
Wood's the only one in the ODI/t20 squad who has a realistic chance of making the 2019 wc squad.
Even going forward I'm not sure how many are going to be challenging for places in the ODI and T20 sides in the next 5 years-
High hopes that Mahmood can come through - Slingy action good pace and yorker should be an asset in shorter formats.

Sam Curran and Bairstow picked up at the IPL auction. Curran is understandable (given how he did against India) but probably misguided given his limited t20 ability. Bairstow is smarter and should have been picked up a couple of years ago imo. Has experience as opener or middle order, and as keeper or outstanding fielder.

I was thinking about Notts the other day and their chances of winning the championship.
Ball should be fit and probably won't be playing for England. I'd back him to come back strong and take lots of wickets.
Broad is available for the first 10 or so games in the championship. These two things are massive +ves.
Those two + one or two of Footitt, Gurney, Chappell, Coughlin, Fletcher, Luke Wood, and Blatherwick. Pretty ridiculous reserves on the fast bowling front. To win the championship you need guys taking 50 wickets+ at around or less than 20. Ball can certainly do that.
They've obviously brought in a load of the best young english talent. The only thing I'd question about them is there isn't a whole lot of experience in under pressure consistency from most of them. Duckett, Chappell, Slater, (coughlin) they all been at struggling div 2 clubs where there is nothing on most of their games. Hard to know whether they can sustain a title challenge across a season if there batting is going to be reliant on Duckett, Slater, Libby, Moores and Samit Patel( who doesn't exactly exude permanence and reliability when batting). Clarke I think is a good signing - driven and played in teams competing across a season.
One day team should be good again though. Clarke, Duckett, Chappell, Coughlin all will add to the collective. Chappell and Coughlin both meant to be class outfielders (for bowlers), as well as their other qualities.

Denly, Gurney and Livingstone joining Curran, Bairstow and those retained previously in the IPL.
Can't see Gurney playing at all. Reasonable bowler but can't bat or field.
Livingstone is a slogger but good experience hopefully. Might get a game or two.
Denly might play depending on who they have available.
Not ideal for Kent to go into div 1 without Denly for the first part of the season.
Vijoen picked up on the back of his insane T10 tournament.

works well for me. play cricket saturday and sunday. sit at the computer during the week listening and watching the cricket
A lot of the members prefer it that way too if i'm not mistaken. A large majority are retired and like to watch the cricket during the week, and do other things at the weekend.
